Julian
I had the pleasure of testing the new Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art (on a Canon 100D...). Focussed on photography, but the results are amazing. Even at f/1.8 it is really sharp, I'm sure it will even beat many primes. It's pretty crazy actually! In the first slideshow everything is at f/1.8! http://www.digifotopro.nl/content/exclusief-%E2%80%93-testfotos-sigma-18-35mm-f-18-dc-hsm-art I did a very small video test, wanted to see if it's parfocal. I think it is! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-agLVS4MP_c This will be killer on Blackmagic EF-mount camera's (if it will work?), Canon aps-c with raw... MFT with speed booster, if a electronic EOS version ever arrives... Pricing of the 18-35mm is TBA... peederj, nahua, andy lee and 2 others
Jacek
Is it good at the shortest end: 18mm/1.8 ? (distortion/CA/sharpness...)
Ernesto Mantaras
Wow! You have some good contacts! You get to test the G6 and then this lens? I'm jealous.
Julian
@Janek: check the link. You can download 78 samples at 1.8, plenty at 18mm. I think it's great. @Ernesto: working for a photography magazine helps ;) After 5 years working in the photography business I picked filming as a new hobby. That's why I'm here... andy lee
this looks a very nice lens , f1,8 and sharp is a great very useful for low light night shoot and par focal! I'm getting one!!
Brellivids
I't s such a shame that there is no 1 cpu 1.6x crop Canon body with a compacth Flash slot. This Art Zoom Sigma and say 60D with a CF slot would make for amazing RAW video combination. Atm a speedbooster + blackmagic camera seems like the best option for the lens in video use. Photo use wise a Nikon 7100 + this 18-35 Sigma is made of WIN. Julian
Ernesto Mantaras
I'm getting one!! Me too! I hope they don't go that expensive, though. :P
tomekk
Has anyone tested one of those sigma art lenses with speedboster? I can't find anything on the web.

tomekk
As far as I know, Julian has just posted first in the internet pictures taken with this lens :).. Yeah, I was thinking about other art lenses that has been out for a while (like 35mm)
Julian
The 18-35mm is for aps-c so will only work with M43 speed booster, not on NEX speed booster. Image circle isn't big enough. And since the EOS-M43 speed booster isn't out... It will take a while before we'll see any of that. I would love to try it :)

Julian
Yep, price is official now. €759 or $799 I think that's crazy.... cheap.
andy lee
wow thats good for an f1.8 constant zoom - there really is not much else out there in that price range at all
Julian
there really is [s]not much[/s] nothing else out there in that price range at all correction ;) I think this beast might hurt Samyang a bit. Their new 16mm f/2 aps-c prime ($500ish?) becomes rather useless now.

Ernesto Mantaras
By the way, Julian, I was wondering how long is the throw on the focus ring? Because I've shot with a 24mm f1.8 lens and it's soooo short! A 5mm turn and you go from closest focus to infinite! (perhaps I'm exaggerating a bit, but it was really hard to do a precise manual focus on the run with it).
peederj
correction ;) I think this beast might hurt Samyang a bit. Their new 16mm f/2 aps-c prime ($500ish?) becomes rather useless now. 16mm is quite a bit wider than 18mm...when the numbers get small the differences get bigger. Also, do we know the actual angle of views yielded (the focal lengths on the barrel are often marketing-influenced rather than lab numbers)? This lens certainly looks interesting, one minus is it isn't stabilized, but nice and fast for the money. I have the Sigma 17-50/2.8 OS and the Samyang 14/2.8 and since I shoot C100 I don't have much need for speed...the 5D3 covers me for DoF...but as a potential impulse purchase... Julian
You're right, 16mm vs 18mm is quite a difference. When comparing them in my head I completely forgot to think about the focal length.. lol. Was just thing about the price tag and aperture.
