Administrators Andrew Reid Posted February 12, 2019 Administrators Share Posted February 12, 2019 Like the scene in Carrie where her dead hand violently springs from the grave, below the stone which marks CANON EOS RIP a more generous hand is about to protrude. ntblowz
Just the 26MP from 6D2 is not that great DR wise, wonder if it will have clog (probably not to differentiate market like typical Canon)
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted February 12, 2019 Author Administrators Share Posted February 12, 2019 If it's 1080p and no C-LOG, or other silly restrictions then obviously whole thing becomes pointless for me. But the rumours seem pretty certain it is 4K and not too gimped next to an EOS R. For stills, it'll be nice but since I take most of my stills on an iPhone anyway, I won't get it just for that ? zerocool22
Yeah the small size is great for photography, but for video these small camera's just jitter all over the place as they are too low weight. Sure Ibis helps, but I guess it does not look as natural as a handheld heavy weight camera. crazyrunner33
crazyrunner33
The handheld look from a small mirrorless isn't bad if you use the neck strap and hold it out far enough to keep it tight. But still, IBIS would be needed for me to consider one. mercer
Popular Post fuzzynormal
FWIW, one of the favorite docs I shot was with a GM1 handheld. There's a lot of things to worry about with making movies. Sure, camera mass is one of them, but, to me, pretty inconsequential on the priority list. meudig, PolarStarArts, anonim and 7 others
mkabi
I know it’s not going to happen... but come on 4K/60p & 1080/120p... It’s like betting that last dollar on red on the roulette... you know you’ve lost a lot more money and it’s like the last bit of light hope before you start walking away from the Casino... thebrothersthre3
They will either gimp it with no DPAF or a 1.8 crop or no Clog.

There are so many gimbals out there that can support a camera of this size and weight, IBIS can be easily replaced, really not an issue at all, canon colors, 4k, S35 crop, DPAF and all for 1,600 bucks...this is the wining combo, if real it is going to be my new doc camera.....hope next tomorrow is confirmed.....thanks daddy Canon!!! 57 minutes ago, thebrothersthre3 said: They will either gimp it with no DPAF or a 1.8 crop or no Clog. I think crop is pretty much confirmed to be S35, but I am afraid no DPAF in 4K is the threat, that is certainly a breaking point to me, lets wait and see, if DPAF is included daddy Canon is going to sell this camera as hotcakes... A gimbal is not a handheld look replacement. A strap around the neck worked wonders for the 550d days indeed.
noone
Is it really lighter than the original A7/A7R? Does the weight include batteries and card? I have seen a couple of different weights mentioned (485 with battery and card which would put it a little more) but it will be close either way. Michael Steiner
The crop has to be smaller than on the EOS R. Less MPs, less crop. Otherwise it would have to be upscalde 4K. And I don‘t expect that. Still, don‘t have too high expectations. This could likely be just a Full Frame M50: no 30p, no Clog, no DPAF in 4K. I wouldn‘t miss 30p and Clog too much, I have matched the M50 with EOS Clog easy to the C100 and C200 (maybe not to a Pro-Colorists satisfaction, but close). But DPAF will be missed a lot more on this camera than on the M50. I hope I‘m wrong but think history will repeat itself: expectations are too high -> lots of disapointment -> „2012 called“, „rip off“, „canon is doomed“ -> things normalize, life goes on -> rumors of next camera appear ? dvcrn
Certainly makes EOS R owners think. I absolutely love my EOS R and it’s by far the camera I have the most fun with, but having it superseded so fast leaves me a bad taste in my mouth. Still looking forward to see what Canon comes up with!
currensheldon
Despite their terrible 4K Crop, Canon is definitely doing some interesting things. Seems like their EF to RF adapter with a variable ND will be shipping at the end of this month, so that could be a big game changer. I've always hated digital stabilization, but has anyone else used it in the EOS R? It is surprisingly good and I haven't noticed any of the warping effect that often plagues digital stabilization. Most excited for NAB 2019 to see if Canon can put some new energy into the wide open (and rather dull since the original Sony FS5) $3-$7k cinema camera market. C100 III or XC-style Super35 ILC? Hope so. crazyrunner33 and mercer

Still looking forward to see what Canon comes up with! I can understand how that would be annoying but a lot of manufacturers, unfortunately, do that. Look at the a6300/a6500 or the GH5/GH5s, in both instances an arguably better camera was released 6 months after the original. With that being said, I doubt that Canon will have Canon Log in the RP... which they should, but knowing the way they segment these cameras, it’s unlikely. But... there was a rumor a while back that Canon was going to release a 7D version of their R mirrorless line that was going to be more video oriented but since most of the specs that have leaked aren’t video related, I doubt the RP is that rumored camera. Once again I am left with waiting to see a spec vs price aspect of the RP. For me to even consider getting one, it needs Canon Log, 4K DPAF and I’d like a S35 crop at the most... although crops don’t really bother me all that much. The icing on the cake would be IBIS but that is so impossible it’s not even worth hoping for.

Hi Andrew. The rumours concerning 4K were, I thought, related to the (now) unreliable rumours concerning a 24MP camera. Canon Rumours thinks these relate to a future EOS-M model. I can't imagine that Canon would offer 4K (even cropped) from a full-frame camera for only $1500-$1600. It'll be 1080p :(.

You may be right, but I vaguely remember an article or interview stating that Canon will not release an ILC without 4K video going forward. I mean, their $600 M50 has it.
