neoclass
Why is that ? Only the center seems to be in focus ? Any help about this from you more experienced filmmakers ? Thanks in advance, Neoclass
silvertonesx24
That's a property of this anamorphic, and also the reason why I got rid of it. Sharpness along the edges is terrible. neoclass
Rob Bannister
I noticed the same thing but I hear diopters help this issue?
Paulio
Agreed, I owned a 7200 and was not impressed. Edges are a mess.
silvertonesx24
I noticed the same thing but I hear diopters help this issue? Diopters effectively magnify the image, so it'd use more of the center of the lens, thus "helping", or probably more accurately- masking- the issue. Tito Ferradans
Am I the only person here who likes this lens? I'd choose it over a double focus system 95% of the time! (of course, with diopters) Zmu
JohnBarlow
So why did you want to rehouse it and make it double focus.? just askin' :) Am I the only person here who likes this lens? Tito Ferradans
So why did you want to rehouse it and make it double focus.? just askin' :) Hahahaha, good point. I like it the way it is, I just think it can be improved (like almost anything else, even Iscos). And not so much "double focus" on the rehousing, but more of a "variable focus through" where the focus range isn't so limited without the diopters, nor so picky like a regular double focus lens. According to tests, you can 'set' the Panny to focus from X to Y meters, and rack focus only with the taking lens. :P
maxmizer
Why is that ? Only the center seems to be in focus ? Any help about this from you more experienced filmmakers ? Thanks in advance, Neoclass as everyone knows LA7200 was built for AG DVX ... is not compatible with all lenses, is not compatible above the approximately 50mm, is not compatible with some lenses because, the distance between the objective lens and the lens of the LA7200 is too high (this is improved by putting a diopter from 0.25 or 0.50 between the lens and LA7200 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci_PM-g1K6c&list=SP219BA51EFE970B89&index=54 ). What goes well with: Panasonic is the best: 20mm F.1.7 but well with Canon 24-70 f2.8 or Sigma 24-70 f 2.8 Tokina 11-16 just try it If you want, we do list, where it works well and where not ;) neoclass and Tito Ferradans
Tito Ferradans
I gotta get back my 0.25 diopter to test this! Along the last year I've read multiple times that diopters between the anamorphic and taking lens would not work properly... I just got confused about maximum focusing distance (maybe I missed a line or so of what he said). It's limited within the diopter range, right? ps - the LA7200 also performs very well combined with Canon 16-35mm f/2.
maxmizer
tferradans try to put the reverse the diopters
neoclass
Maxmizer Vmax I've seen many videos with the same gear I use and they show no blurry edges. Watch. for example, Nitzberg's vid of LA7200 on Vimeo. All clear ! neoclass
Paulio
Using a achromat and not just a diopter may cleanup some of the chromatic ass the LA7200 is full of, not sure. My understanding is the limitation is quality of the optics in the LA7200.
Tito Ferradans
Tested the +0.25 diopter thing, and it worked great for close focus, from about 1m to 2-3m. I still don't understand how this happens, optically, but it DOES work.
