The 6K 10-bit h265 200Mbps mode is basically unusable without proxies, but the 4K 10-bit h264 150Mbps mode is quite useable, so I'm wondering if the extra IQ benefits are worth it for what I'm trying to do. Yes, there is sharpening, but I normally output in 1080, and even if I uploaded in 4K I could just put a DLPF across it. I'm tempted to do an A/B between modes, then put them both through their paces with how I edit and see how hard it is to match the h264 image to the h265 and how much I care about the differences. Dustin
I’m sure this has been asked before but pardon my laziness! I am using resolve 16 beta on a 2012 MacBook Pro i7 Retina. Quite the ancient machine yet still usable thanks to optimized media workflow! While cutting 4K a6500 footage on a 1080p timeline it is very smooth. My question is in color grading... sometimes it’s as if when using the color tab that playback is struggling which is odd because I don’t have those issues on the edit tab. Is there a setting I need to make sure is on to get smooth playback from the color tab? Finally, what is the preferred workflow for color grading? I recently discovered the adjustment layer and have been using that (hangover from premiere pro) but do most just use the nodes and copy over to the various clips? I also edit on a MBP and I have also noticed the Colour tab is slower. I suspect it's the extra work required to generate the waveforms. Try turning them off? In a sense there isn't a preferred workflow, it's whatever works for you. Colour grading is fiction. If the goal was to make the image look like reality we'd be using colour checkers and just using technical LUTs and the job would be done. Instead we do film emulations by artificially colouring shadows and highlights, compressing and expanding dynamic range according to our preferences, etc etc. In general though, it's wise to have a basic workflow: Do any exposure or WB corrections (that should have been done in-camera but weren't) Convert from LOG / HLG to the output format (rec709, HLG) Match shots Colour grade however you like Export Dustin

KnightsFan
Has anyone else tried out the new object removal tool? I'm experimenting with it today and it's really fun so far. The results aren't great yet, so I'm trying to learn what scenarios it works for and where it fails.

I have a feeling that the Resolve feature will be most useful for tiny objects in the far background that aren't super noticeable anyway, because so far I'm not getting anything really good out of it. I just tried putting a tracking marker on my arm and removing it. It utterly failed to replace the tracking marker with skin--and instead replaced that patch of my skin with the wall behind me! Like I said, not great results, but it's pretty fun to play with. webrunner5
Dustin
Okay I need some help..I'm cutting together a project and I can see that my clips are linked/unlinked however, Resolve doesn't seem to be letting me drag them or edit as a link clip without selecting both audio and video. When selecting both and hitting the link clip command I see the linked lock on both audio/video tracks in the left hand corner however again, when I click on a blank part of the timeline and then click on the newly-linked clip, it only selects either the audio or video (whatever I clicked) and is not truly behaving as a "linked" clip. Any suggestions? I'm sure this boils down to my newbness in Resolve but I am using the 16 beta.

The other part of the puzzle is the Linked Selection toggle switch in the toolbar: It's the one in the middle with the two chain links. If you have two linked clips and that toggle is on then clicking on one will select both, but (what I think you might have done) is to untoggle that option and even if the clips are linked you will now only select or move one of the linked clips and not both. heart0less
I have some issue with exporting stills. Created a topic on a BM forum and waiting for its approval. Maybe you could tell me what I'm doing wrong? This is how I see my image in Resolve after zooming in to 100%: This is how my exported still look like: I use Optimized Media (Quarter Resolution, DNxHR SQ) for all my clips and I think this is the culprit. However, I made sure to uncheck 'Use Optimized Media if available' in Playback dropdown menu just to prevent Resolve from using proxies for a while. Both timeline resolution and still resolution is 3840x2160. 'Output scaling' (in 'Image Scaling' in 'Project settings') is set to 'Match timeline settings'. Is there any other thing that could affect stills quality? I tried exporting the files as TIFFs (instead of PNGs) - didn't help.
