/p/
What Nikon DSLR is currently the best for shooting video? I know the obvious choice is a Canon + ML but I'd like to know what Nikon has on offer.. I just bought a BMCC so I'm covered for RAW (I don't think there are many situations where I am going to want to shoot multi-cam RAW).. I just want a DSLR as a B-Cam that I'll be able to hopefully match fairly well to BMCC in prores for some small projects. I am obviously considering the BMPCC but want to see how things play out from here (with the problems it's supposedly having) and consider what else is available, since I don't particularly need RAW in a B-cam and have Nikon lenses I'm wondering what Nikon options are available up till the D600 6D range of cameras. Thanks. Ratguity
maxotics
Non of them. I have a Nikon D600. No complaints as a still camera. The video is no different, far as I can tell, from video from their D7000, or even D3100. I would be concerned about matching footage from a high dynamic range camera (the BMCC) and contrasty video which is a Nikon after-thought from their camera. Here is an idea of what you'll be up against, in matching footage. https://vimeo.com/73096779 PANDETTA
Nikkor
ehm, that's not right. Best right now are d5200/d7100 as far as I can tell, almost no moire,etc... Andrew reviewed the d5200. mojo43
Mondo
D5200 or D7100. They surprised me. mojo43
RRRoger
I've shot Video with the Canon 5D2, Nikon D90, D7000, D7100, D5100, D600, D800 and V1. I have not tried the D5200. For my use the D800 is by far the best. The V1 could be a close 2nd if it had clean HDMI out.
Rungunshoot
I've shot lots of Nikon D5200 footage. Very sharp, great color, but horrible noise in shadows and poor battery life. The interview portions of this webseries are shot with that camera: http://screen.yahoo.com/girls-game/ Here's a short film I shot on D5200: https://vimeo.com/70224759
Fifty
I second (or third) the D7100, but agree with Rungunshoot... be prepared to deal with the noise in shadow'd areas.
becam
Long time ago.. but maybe somebody is still interested in a clip i shot with the D7100. The picture should be the same like the D5200 and D5300. I shot the clip in 720 to get 50fps (pal). So, in 1080 and 50fps on a D5300 the quality should be even better. Dallas Video
I have to agree that Nikon isn't caught up with Canon where video is concerned. I think they're killing Canon in stills, though. Christina Ava
jnorman34
The D5300 shoots quite good video, with generally no observable aliasing or moire, unlike literally every other canon and Nikon body I tried out.
Aussie Ash
entirely shot with a Nikon D5300 + NIKKOR 35mm 1.8 most of the shots were handheld post: FCPX
