It seems to me that if you are shooting in natural light the Pocket 6k is the way to go. The P4K seems like the small sensored camera it is now! There is always the argument that you gain the stop you loose from a Speedbooster of course, but still.. DNGs processed with workflow described here https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=65149&p=543725#p537852 Noise reduction was applied before expose boost. My background is simple black fabric, so it is darker and so more extreme test than Cinema5D examples, you can compare things by Color Checker patches. Let's be honest, even P6K can't provide usable underexposed 5 stops. It looks too noisy and became plastic mess if you add SNR. Sort of horisontal FPN lines also became visible in Sony sensors. So we see here is 5 years old native HD camera with Fairchild Imaging dual gain sensor fights against gigantic 6K/4K modern Sony sensors in downscaled to HD mode. 3 stops under expose is pretty usable with BMMCC as well as P4k/P6K. jonprimo Posted September 4, 2019 Share Posted September 4, 2019 Hey guys I got my bmpcc6k last wk and finally got to take it out this wknd to do some test shots. Here are some screen grabs. I shot in Braw 6k & 2.8k mixing 23.98, 50 and 120 fps. Lens was canon 24-70 L series. Also I no ND so I had to stop down a lot and mess with the ISO to expose. These stills I colored in Lightroom. But everyone else, who already has the BMPCC 4K? An EF speed booster is the far smarter choice than a new camera that's double the price of the Pocket 4K. It's more than double the price because it's double the storage space. Anyone who thinks they need more than 4K resolution has rocks in their heads. majoraxis Posted September 6, 2019 Share Posted September 6, 2019 As we see in the under exposure test above that difference between the Pocket 4K and Pocket 6k image is more than resolution. I hope that Blackmagic can fix the color issue with the underexposed images with the Pocket 4K. If so, it is a much better value. If not, and the Pocket 6k had a MTF mount, I would pay the almost twice the price cost difference for it - I think many would. The Pocket 6k has a great image, which is very forgiving when it comes to variable/low light conditions and it will pay for the difference in price by missing less shots over the life of the camera. I've noticed this weird tint since the beginning and it doesn't seem to pick up blue hues in certain situations. You can see the color shift required. Major shift from magenta to green, but it was not possible to achieve this with just the tint, temp sliders which were only tweaked slightly using auto white balance then tweaked further to dial it in. I also increased the dynamic range slider which made it have more contrast without having to use the contrast slider. I also added saturation. Also slight tweaks on the color web to skin tone color area. So it seems there needs to be a dynamic shift in color, contrast and saturation based on the under exposure level for each pixel of the image for the Pocket 4K. But I have invested in MFT lenses and they still serve me well. I have seen a side by side comparison of shots with the P4K and P6K and the P6K is def better. But if you remove the comparisons, no one's going to complain that you shot with a P4K, or Sony (unless they see the jello rolling shutter), as long as what's shown provides value to viewers. But I'm still dreaming of owning a P6K I decided for the P4K last week, pre-ordered it and no regrets here. Do not need 6K, the file sizes are enormous. Braw in 6K only and Prores only on other resolutions. I already own the super wooper dooper Olympus 12-100 for run n gun and already own Lens Regain M43/EF adapter for my EF lenses. Half the price helps also, as I also ordered a full Tilta cage with some accessories, HawksWood NPF battery adapter and Tilta Nucleus N with the rest of the money. 8K will be here before next summer, the game never stops..
