Administrators Andrew Reid Posted March 16, 2012 Administrators Share Posted March 16, 2012
Sam Morgan Moore (check out his take on this here) has sent me some high quality grabs direct from his ProRes footage today. Origin, the first 5D Mark III batch to land in London. The workflow was H.264 to ProRes 4:2:2 to TIFF then to high quality JPEG. I have to say image quality is really nice, a great base to work from and very gradable indeed. ISO performance even at 6400 is stunning with a very fine film-like grain.Read full article
nahua
This is very nice. It bodes well for low-light, and the elimination of moire is very good news indeed. I can't wait to get my hands on a 5DmkIII!!
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted March 16, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted March 16, 2012 I was frankly amazed how much I was able to push it around before the image broke up. That codec is superb. Sensor also very much improved.
raphwoody
Regarding sharpness asked Sam Moore about it on vimeo: One question, what was the sharpness setting in camera? Sam Morgan Moore "sorry did not check the sharpness - so 'as it comes' I guess image I set to neutral" And like i said on vimeo, that's actually interesting, if it was on default setting it would be interessing to see if the digital sharpening has been improved and if using it to a greater extent makes the sharpness on the MkIII comparable to that on the MkII. jonpais
gene_can_sing
This makes me EXTREMELY happy. Except now my major dilema is whether to buy the 5D3 or wait for the 4K C-DSLR? Not sure I can wait that long and who knows when it's coming out. Maybe I'll just hold off until NAB which is pretty soon for more info. Maybe buy the 5D3 and use it as a B-Cam when the 4K C-DSLR comes out. But damn.... that's a lot of cash. If the 5D3 only had a flip screen. I have a monitor, but part of the freedom is just to use it as is and a flip screen is so nice for steadycam and odd angle type shots. I guess I'll have to wait for the 4K camera for that. Sara
So far so good (except for the jello vision - but I don't pan fast so no worry to me - but for those hand holding without a glidecam....video won't look great). Thanks Andrew for teaming up with Sam to share your findings!
smon222
What?? This was posted yesterday and still no Nikon is still better posts? Wow. The footage looks awesome to me, I would rather my footage be gradeable and let me add sharpness or color how I want.
