Zach Ashcraft
words cannot express how bad those videos look Ugh...so true. Nothing annoys me more than just abysmal test footage or photos. How can I get Sony to send me one for testing? Have a website?
thedest
At first I thought that those videos were overexposed. But an overexposed video should have a lot of shadow detail. Then I realized that the shadows were crushed. How many stops of DR does this camera have? 5? The video of the city skyline shows A LOT of crushed midtones. I wonder if those videos were shot with a cellphone.

MattH
They are just what I expected. Consumer compact still cam video quality. Because that's what it is really I don't know how the DVXuser guys could be so optimistic. And I can't believe they would see this footage and still maintain their optimism. This footage is in no way suitable for broadcast.
tehgeek
Sadly not a surprise.
Marekich
It's all politics. It is clear that manufacturers try to advance their cameras as little as possible. They will cripple them on purpose (planned obsolescence). They are on a verge of creating almost perfect camera, but they just won't do it because they won't be able to sell newer cameras anymore. They just keep getting closer and closer to the verge, and slower and slower, but won't cross it - not because they can't, but because it would hurt future sales. You can forget about Sony (and other manufacturers also) creating great universal camera (video + photo), because they still believe they have market for camcorders. Until they stop believing that, we will not get great all-around cameras - they will continue to cripple video functions and/or performance. It will take years, and then only the most expensive cameras will be really, really good and universal.
tpr
Wake up! Those are video youtube 360p ultracompressed obviously fake as well. You can not base the sample of 360p, and most of youube. They're in 1080p and uploaded by someone who reviews the camera in a separate video. You can clearly see he has the rx10 in that video, so the samples are unlikely to be fake. They appear to be all too real, unfortunately.
Axel
The person who record this samples not set the correct camera parameter such as potrait color profile (-3 -3 -3) and the 180° degree shutter. This introduce a moire and scales in rolling shutter. You are absolutely right. And yet, in the seperate review video, you see - or rather hear - other problems with a camera that pricy. First of all, hear the echoes from within the thin plastic body when he touches anything. Acceptable for a 500 € G6, but not for 1200 €. You can tell by this clip alone that you can forget shooting handheld, even with the aid of a pistol grip. Crackles will resonate and be read by the internal mic as rumbles, and most probably also by any mic on the hotshoe that has no good shockmount. Then hear the noise of the zoom servo, it's like ED209 (by the way, a zoom lever/dial, but obviously no ease-in-ease-out like in 90% of the 15-year-old camcorders, fuzzy logic for zoom transitions was actually introduced in the 70's)! Hear the manual zoom hissing 'shshshh', plastic friction like that of a lomo toy lens. In the hands of a more experienced operator, the video will be quite okay, but judging by the official clips it also says video, not only in 60p. jgharding
So in other words it's another thing that could have been exceptional, but has been demoted to above average for the usual business reasons... Since the RX100 Sony have been jacking up their prices too... The RX100 was arguably worth it, but the RX1 and RX10 are very steep.
hoodlum
Very interesting decision by Sony. I wonder if there is a recording limit? http://www.newsshooter.com/2013/10/17/sony-rx10-a-video-journalists-delight/ "Great news, Sony’s Kanta Yamamoto has been in touch to say that the RX10 is actually PAL/NTSC region switchable"
Tony Anastasi
rx10 from page 3 video samples v's rooftops on the a7, same bloke i think shooting this one also - making the rx10 look bloody good in this regard.. fine detail is a different story though.. wheres the real video samples showing what this thing can really do inteh right hands ? someone / anyone ?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oh3dKWglaXQ&feature=share&list=UUTTbWzYZZ-xxQecXddaqQ1w now how good does the RX10 look eh ?... perfect for interviews me thinks.. :P
jgharding
I think the RX10 does look great for a lot of tasks, though the codec bitrate is a bit of a shame, it's a great camcorder replacement.
Tzedekh
It would be interesting if someone could reprogram (yeah, hack) the Bionz X image processor to take the 5.4K raw and convert it to 4K CineForm RAW and then output it to the SD card. I would think that the processing power is there, as AVCHD encoding is probably considerably more processor intensive. The system bandwidth, particularly to the card, might be too slow, though. nigelbb
Gordon Laing has posted some short clips from the RX10 on Vimeo with the original .mts files available for download. The detail looks pretty amazing & it's noise free at ISO3200. The continuous AF is impressive too. He has obviously found a new niche doing camera reviews Camera reviews, DSLR reviews, lens reviews, photography guides | Cameralabs
XXX
More samples from RX10 Always amazed how much photographers suck at filming.
animan
dynamic range, especially midtones still looking kind of mushy (im not sure is it in fact a DR issue or more about the codec how the colours are all somehow compressed into one shade?)
