Sean Cunningham
Not sure what you mean by "rebellion" but the film is reportedly shot in three different aspect ratios, each for a different time period: 1.33:1, 1.85:1 and 2.35:1 Looks marvelous. roccoforte
I noticed a few wide shots in the credits
Sean Cunningham
It will be interesting to see if the progression goes 1.33:1 -> 1.85:1 -> 2.35:1 or if the later two are swapped. I guess it depends on what he's trying to say.
Paulio
Yep I was shocked, at first I started looking for a different version of the trailer as I thought some chump had messed up the upload. Interestingly they originally thought about shooting tennenbaums this way because of the vertical nature of the house. Can't wait for the film, must say at first I found the aspect ratio a bit jarring but it will be interesting to see what feeling switching them up across time periods has. Paulio
I saw an interview after Moonrise Kingdom where he mentioned he may have to go digital soon due to lack of a place to get film managed and developed on this scale. I can't imagine a digital Anderson film.
tony wilson
a few of mr anderson's inspirations methinks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Cb3ik6zP2I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8Ciz1G_Zm0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdZMw0Q1B38 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-uxeZaM-VM Zmu and jgharding
Paulio
He is definitely inspired aesthetically and thematically by the films of Hal Ashby (Harold and Maude, The Last Detail, Being There ), Mike Nichols (The Graduate) and François Truffaut (400 Blows). So much so he has been known to lift shot compositions directly. I'm a fan of Wes and all these guys.
Sean Cunningham
It boggles my mind when I read people criticize him for his meticulous style and production design. Calling it too "precious". I look forward to every one of them. He must be amazing to work with given the collection of notorious egos who make repeat appearances in his films. They know they're going to be in something special. I was disappointed that I never got to meet him when I worked on The Life Aquatic. Paulio
Agreed, I feel like even if his style is not to your tastes, it's refreshing that he has his own aesthetic and you can tell its his film within 10 seconds of watching, and any character from any of his films could walk into any other film without feeling out of place. Not many filmmakers I can say that about. Sean Cunningham
