Administrators Andrew Reid Posted August 27, 2019 Administrators Share Posted August 27, 2019 The S1H is the best featured mirrorless camera on the market for filmmakers - just to put it into perspective, let's start by summarising the entire competition as quickly as we can. HockeyFan12
Very cool. How is the low light? I imagine much grainier than the A7SII since the codec is more robust, but probably better than even the Varicam and with a much more comparable image. Amazeballs
Personally I felt like this review was overhiped. It goes only about strong points of this camera. I think you defenitly should wait for Sony A7S3 before passing the judjment that there is no competition for Panasonic in this area. It is. A7S3 is the competitor. Lets wait for it and see who wins. Besides flawless AF and probably some new tech sensor, Sony has one key advantage - its lenses. Oh those sweet Tamron zooms..

Better than the A7S II 25,600 is ok. 1 minute ago, Amazeballs said: Personally I felt like this review was overhiped. It goes only about strong points of this camera. If all camera reviews had to wait for the A7S III, you would not be getting any reviews at all. andrgl, ntblowz, nathlas and 10 others 3

Lol very well said, sony fanboy being saying that since gh5... That was like 3 years ago!? Vision
abehalpert
This camera looks fucking badass. That being said, as someone who doesn't need anamorphic, unlimited recording, or 6K, I'm not sure if it's worth 2x the price of the S1 to me. Depends on the DR/low-light tests. And even though I hate Sony color, so many clients are asking for Sony these days that I have to wait to see what the A7S3 offers. Should be out in September if not tomorrow. Amazeballs
The good news is that they sort of fixed VFR and now you can record sound and have AF. Hurray! I wonder if it will be ported to GH5? I think not. Not that it not possible, but they just wont do it. But we can assume to have it in GH6 than at least.

A camera that hasn't been announced, has no specs, etc. isn't a competitor. You need to actually exist in order to compete. When the A7Siii does exist then it'll factor into the conversation. Administrators Andrew Reid Posted August 27, 2019 Author Administrators Share Posted August 27, 2019 Maybe blog should go blank until Sony A7S III is out in 2022? No comparisons to actually existing cameras allowed! By the way ProRes RAW looks to be in development for the S1H although not got the official announcement text yet. andrgl

Administrators Andrew Reid Posted August 27, 2019 Author Administrators Share Posted August 27, 2019 Dual Gain output with twin analogue circuits on the sensor, bit like the GH5S. I think it is a different sensor to the S1.
abehalpert
ProRes RAW via HDMI to Atomos, correct? Now that would get my wallet open...

Salalah
The rolling shutter means 4k full frame isn't that useful unfortunately. And AF is still disappointing. My wait for the perfect camera continues. A stacked sensor A7Siii and the new XEVC Sony codec is more promising than this imo. The review is a bit overhyped. Sony apparently have a new a7 camera announcement next month. They definitely have it within themselves to top this
