aaa123jc
I am probably too late for the discussion. Anyways, I think both Slog2 and HLG can give excellent result. Both have very good dynamic range and decent color (this depends on personal preferences, of course). I used to struggle with color correcting SLog2 footage, but then I found the Color Space Transform tool in Resolve. Normally, I will simply transform the gamma and color space to Rec. 709 and start to do minor adjustments. It is much easier this way, IMO. I don't even need a LUT. Here are some of my old footage using the A7S2. I had forgotten to bring the ND filter so these were way way overexposed. Still, with a few clicks of buttons, I've got usable results. My girlfriend was happy with it, at least.
colepat
Would anyone be willing share some SLOG or HLG footage for me to mess around with grading? I want to see if I like the looks I can get. Mark Romero 2
Geoff CB
Everyone who is shooting in any form of S-log should be using ACES to grade it. A7rII Slog 2 sample from this thread graded in ACES
Attila Bakos
Would anyone be interested in LUTs that could be applied on S-Log2/S-Gamut3.cine clips on an ACEScct timeline? I extracted color information from Fujifilm profiles, and built special LUTs for ACEScct. The effect is subtle because the gamma is unchanged, only color is changed: Normal S-Log2/S-Gamut3.cine clip on an ACEScct timeline, with only exposure adjustment: Provia LUT applied: Classic Chrome LUT applied: I have all the other profiles as well. heart0less
@Attila Bakos, I'm not sure if it's due to JPEG compression or it's just 8 bits breaking down, but take a look at the walls - a whole lot of awful banding.

It's the compression, I never release LUTs with such problems heart0less
Mako Sports
Ive found that converting Slog 2 to slog 3 then hitting it with a rec 709 lut gives great results

So will probably want to shoot some new footage for you. colepat

Mako Sports
Slog 2 S gamut 3 Cine, converted to Slog 3 with the Resolve color space transform tool, then I used a lutify rec 709 conversion lut. Lutify creative lut added after. I zoomed into to like 100% and did see a little bit of chroma noise. colepat
