Hi guys !

Just a little post to share the entire specs list of the Canon 1dX MkIII that appeared on B&H (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1512601-REG/canon_eos_1d_x_mark_iii.html/DFF/d10-v21-t1-x995001/SID/EZ) and Adorama (https://www.adorama.com/ica1dxm3.html?utm_source=rflaid68073).
Some of the rumors that stated maybe 6k or internal stabilization were wrong, I think we should see it in their upcoming professional mirrorless body.

I saw this first here.

I have to say, as it is right now, it seems like a powerful stills camera, and a very interesting video camera for me as i'm invested in EF lenses. I wanted the flexibility of 10 bits 422 recording as well as C-Log. Raw is interesting too but if it's the same as on the C200 it will be a real storage eater !!

What do you think of this soon to be announced camera?

Nothing new here, and the only "good" news is what we already know that is:

shoot 4K videos including 4K60p with 10-bit 4:2:2 Canon Log internal recording.

So yay, 10bit internal FINALLY for a Canon DSLR! </s>

But who knows what weird and random "GOTCHA" they're going to give us with this? A massive crop factor? No DPAF in 4K 60fps 10bit? A far too low bitrate? Or the exact opposite and an overly stupidly large bitrate? Something we haven't even thought of yet that is weirdly bizarre and inexplicable, such as omitting audio recording if doing 10bit internal or only allowing it in B&W????

People should have been disappointed enough times now by Canon to stop getting excited by any new Canon launch. Wait until any new Canon product is shipping, and in the hands of independent reviewers, before starting to get excited about it.  (I'm more interested in knowing what the Nikon D780 announcement will be next week)

It likely will be the same raw format, meaning 1gbs at 4k. There‘s that Red-patent preventing more compressed raw formats...

A massiv crop would mean a massiv jump in resolution compared to the 1dx2, so at least that‘s rather unlikely...

But with gotchas or not: this will be a big and pricey camera, probably quite close to the C200. I wonder what kind of videoshooters would prefer a 1D to a C-Line camera. I can see it as a pricey B-Cam for highend shooters. But why pay 5-6k if you can have a Panasonic with comparable specs for less or a C200 with all the benefits for motion pictures for more or less the same price?

DPAF and color science will probably be their main selling point.

Anyone know what the DR of the sensor is?  The Canon film-making YouTubers have really struggled with the comparatively poor DR of late and one posted a series of videos from a trip that were clipped to hell and obviously had a bunch of interactions with other manufacturers because camera tests from other manufacturers followed quite closely.

Yeah wondering the same thing, but the 1DX II was not that bad either was around the same as the A7S II I think. So couldnt be any worse. And the DR of the A7S II is pretty great. Hopefully they will hire a decent DP to film a commercial/shortfilm like the original C300 video.

1DX II didn’t have Log so I think we can expect better DR in this model.

Overall pretty great specs imo. Looks like we’ll finally get FF 4K no crop on a Canon hybrid.

6K RAW internal is a pretty big surprise and if FF no crop a class leading feature on a hybrid system.

No AF on 6K RAW & 4K60p seems like reasonable compromises for everything else you’re getting.

I understand that they dont want to give AF on the 5.4k raw. But i think not giving it on the 4k 60 mode is a bummer.

They know perfectly well how to hit you with the cripple hammer.

If we can get about 12.5 stops of usable DR with log, This would be a winner camera.

Now the only thing remaining is the price.
