Being confined to the house isn't too much of an issue for us work wise as we both work from here anyway (though boy did I get out of being a professional sports photographer at the right time as I would be fucked) but it does mean needing something else to fill up the non-working hours to stop us getting cabin fever. I'm guessing that a lot of people on here might well be about to experience similar confinement if they aren't already, so, trying to make lemonade out of lemons, what long put off projects will you be doing ? For me, aside from finishing a couple of the latter Final Fantasy games to get me sharp for the release of the VII remake next month , I think I might look at : Making a start on learning some Unreal Engine stuff Re-wiring/configuring my music studio Having a couple of lens world cup shootouts to try and thin the collection Developing a wireless interface for BM ATEM switchers Advanced urban combat tactics for hand sanitiser purchasing Be interesting to see what people are planning and seeing how those plans progress here to keep our spirits up ? Might even be a good time to have a "One Single Room In Your House Film Challenge" Being more or less locked down myself (I'm in Paris, France and anticipating political decisions to come out tonight) I give a look to old times EOSHD posts. And I red this one again : https://www.eoshd.com/news/big-news-hands-on-with-continuous-raw-recording-on-canon-5d-mark-iii/ Looking at the beautiful images produced with this hack at the time (2013 !!!) If it fits your workflow and you really like using it, the answer is “you shouldn’t” I still shoot occasionally with my 5Dii. My GH5 is a more practical camera, however. What it offers, and the ease in which it offers it, makes it a great tool for documentary work.

Not sure if this was a question specifically for me ? I don't have a 5D Mark iii so better leave the specifics to those who do - particularly around usability/practicality - but, yeah, the image quality is certainly there from all I've seen of it. David Bowgett
I was thinking of starting a PhD later this year, so I guess when I'm not editing I'll be doing groundwork and putting together a proper proposal on that. Fortunately, I managed to go into my former university's library and photocopy just about every textbook related to the subject area, which should keep me occupied for a good while. But if it drags on then I might have to, shock horror, actually buy some textbooks! If nothing else, I'm actually weirdly glad that the Z6 I purchased last month exploded less than an hour after I first turned it on, and Amazon refused to exchange it, offering me only a refund. Would have been annoying having a nice new mirrorless and being all but unable to actually make use of it. Plus now I'll be able to see if the Canon R6 might be a better buy after all. Just picked up a a7r "classic" with OEM battery grip, a couple extra batteries and Fotodiox tough mount for $500 with less than 2,000 clicks on the shutter. This fills the photo void left by selling the a7rIII and a7III. I still prefer the stills from 36mp sensor over the newer 42/47 versions, everything else not so much. its such a crappy design, amazing how people bash the EOS R and forget what a dumpster fire the a7mkI's are. This will be my main landscape camera until everyone shows their cards in the next few months. Just missed out on a Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera with a cage and metabones speedbooster on Ebay for $460. If you're not desperate and you waste a lot of time searching, there are amazing deals to be found. Chris IronFilm

Video Hummus
Well... The Gov. of my State just ordered all non-essential businesses closed for 14 days. I expect it will be longer than 14 days when all said and done. So I have to close the doors and made the hard decision to lay-off 7 employees. So two weeks mandatory unpaid vacation it is for me and a ton of financial uncertainty. Time to do all those things I never have time for and hope I don’t lose businesses My wife and I have been building for a decade. Stay safe out there. kaylee, IronFilm, heart0less and 2 others 1

Yikes. The US is going to get rocked hard by this all around. If we are where Italy is 2 weeks from now, it ain't likely to be pretty. My opinion is that life in the USA is pretty much random cultural nonsense anyway, with people in power operating with fear rather than our citizen's best interest. What happened yesterday at the White House was just another paper cut, just a longer stroke. "It's national emergency time all of a sudden! Pretend everything I've said over the past 4 weeks about COVID is irrelevant. And here are a bunch of corporate CEO standing behind me for some bullshit reason! I'm not responsible!" I'm pretty damn cynical about society right about now. Tell us old wise one what should have been done that hasn't in the U.S? I think the FDA should have stopped all air travel across the globe. That's on every country that didn't stand up and support this action. You see what's happened since last Wednesday and the panic caused. The panic is caused by the media (CNN) and an almost complete shut down. This flu virus who has killed a little over 70 people, mostly elderly, in a country of 350 million is not reason enough for stopping the economy. We have a vaccine for the common flu yet 60K people die from it, including children.
Emanuel
This is not a normal flu, unfortunately, the infection power and how fast spreads is tremendously diverse of anything known to date. Without vaccine only quarantine can save lives and billions later on. A day of delay increases exponentially the number of infected. The deadline of this crisis. The amount of infected exceeds the healthcare system at a certain point they're unable to treat everyone in critical condition. The choice between who lives and they let die. This is the lesson to learn from Italian case as of now. noone

We've got three countdown clocks going on while we are sat locked in the house. When we left Japan on the 8th of March. When we transited through Madrid airport on the 9th of March where not one precaution was in place by officials or staff and a bunch of people were coughing their heads off on the connecting flight to Alicante. When we went to our local supermarket which had about 3 people in it (all of us wearing gloves) to buy some Frosties on the 15th of March. I'll be honest and say I'm far more bothered about clock number 2 but with this thing it might easily be clock number 3 so I'll be wracked with angst until that one finishes. And then it will be clock number 4 when I run out of Tony The Tiger's really ggggreat corn based breakfast treat and have to venture out for more. Having to live in 14 day cycles of uncertainty will be enough to make anyone a fatalist after a few rounds of it. Or at least to explore the possibility of switching to Crunchy Nut Cornflakes. Cinegain
Here they say that there's three scenarios, for public health and economic reasons they didn't go with either 'let the virus run it's course and do nothing about it' nor 'complete lockdown until the virus has been eliminated'. They went with the option for 'maximum controlability'... working towards minimizing the spread, but not stopping it, to keep the hospitals from going over max. capacity and from what I've understood in meanwhile letting the virus slowly spread amongst the group that's deemed fit (not the elderly, people with previous medical conditions/immune diseases). The tipping point will be when 2/3rds of the population has had the virus and have been healed from it causing widespread immunity amongst citizens and the risk of spreading to the not-fit group should reduce considerably from there. Things will then hopefully be able to slowly get back to normal. Either way, this virus will be around for a while, running its course. If you manage to ban it completely now, that's fine, but the risk it will pop up eventually will still be there, so it's pretty futile. Emanuel
We wish. I've heard a specialist say there's no way to reach immunity because it's a mutant there. Video Hummus
COVID-19 is an RNA based virus. That means it can mutate just like Influenza. It is very important to get a vaccine and eliminate its current form as soon as possible before it mutates. The bottom line is this: the world will never be the same again. We are very likely going to be in a situation where every flu season we will have influenza and a Coronavirus outbreak. noone
noone
Looks like a vaccine might be coming sooner than later. It also looks like a HIV drug and a Malaria drug can kill it too.

Sometimes mutations are a good thing, is for instance how the SARS virus was helped to be contained a few years back. Because there was a mutation of SARS which was less deadly that then spread. As an extremely virulent virus that kills the host before the infection can spread would have a competitive disadvantage.
