heart0less
Hello! One of the videos I recently watched reminded me about a small conundrum I had some time ago: Top-level gear seems to make the image slightly more green (an earthy hue of green, not the Sony-zombie one). Is it only me or is it visible to you, as well? Maybe it's "THE 1 TIP THAT WILL MAKE YOUR VIDEOS CINEMATIC"? Who knows? 😎 Some screen grabs to support that thesis: (taken from: https://youtu.be/8x10V0oGTIM) Another example: Angenieux EZ-2 15 to 40mm on a Canon M50 (taken from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdrn1FjkLf8) Arri Alexa (Classic) vs iPhone 11 Pro (https://youtu.be/jWKkEvJ8HlY) Alexa Mini vs Red Epic-W Helium https://nofilmschool.com/2017/02/shootout-arri-alexa-mini-vs-red-epic-w-helium: Their conclusion: Am I seeing things? androidlad
It's actually called - cyan. There is indeed a general cyan tint in high end camera footage, but it's not the sole characteristic of their colour science, you can just add cyan to any footage make them look high end. Inazuma
Oftentimes 35mm film can end up with a green tint. Check out some film vs digital pictures here https://www.streetsilhouettes.com/home/2017/3/20/an-inquiry-into-digital-versus-film?rq=m10 I always thought that on movies shot digitally they purposefully added a bit of green tint to the shadows. I didn't realise it could come from the lens itself. I definitely find that the green tint helps to provide the image with a more grounded feeling. Administrators Andrew Reid Posted April 27, 2020 Administrators Share Posted April 27, 2020 In most of those examples above it is just the orange & teal grading in action. Although doing nuanced warm and cool shades in one frame is indeed the hallmark of a nice image, in my opinion. Nuanced tones like cyan and good white balance are one of the traits of the 1D C and what separated it form just merely a "very good" 4K camera at the time like the Samsung NX1. So it isn't about 10bit. It's the white balance, colour science, and sensor. 4 hours ago, androidlad said: you can just add cyan to any footage make them look high end. It's not quite that simple. You can't add what the camera doesn't capture. You can change hues and biases but if the baseline capture is flawed it gives you a TON of time consuming work to do AND never looks as good as a better file. heart0less

Meant to type "can't" on the phone. 😁 you can't just add cyan to any footage make them look high end.
heart0less
Guess you're right.. Another one (https://vimeo.com/383382022) Alexa EV was introduced back in 2010. Still, nothing can't beat its skin tone rendering.
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted April 27, 2020 Administrators Share Posted April 27, 2020 Are you sure? Sony certainly can't, but I think Fuji and Leica might be in for a chance along with some of the RAW cameras.
heart0less
That was a bold statement, I stand corrected. 😌

thebrothersthre3
The differences become pretty apparent in the harsh blue/red light situation. Alexa really pulls on top. That said the Pocket 6k is definitely the nicest high res camera package under 10,000, at least if we are talking about buying new. heart0less
HockeyFan12
This is true.
