I was wondering before if Apple somehow has a blanket license from Red and then sub-licenses to manufacturers or something. Apple just licenses out the codec. Which is quite different to the RED patents, which block people from doing internal compressed raw. Oh hang on, the MAVO Edge doesn't do great compression than 5:1 ProResRAW? Is that still light enough compression that it isn't covered by RED's patents? Quote The codec Apple took RED to court for, the ProRes RAW file format, allows files to be compressed for up to 22:1, with 8:1 visually lossless compression and 3:1 mathematically lossless compression. https://techthelead.com/straight-outta-silicon-valley-apple-loses-video-patent-lawsuit-to-red/ So that is why Kinefinity has 5:1 ProResRAW? And not 8:1 Quote The camera can also include a memory device and an image processing system configured to compress and store in the memory device the raw image data at a compression ratio of at least six to one and remain substantially visually lossless, and at a rate of at least about 23 frames per second. https://patents.google.com/patent/US8872933B2/en BINGO! Patrick B.
Interesting. I thought ProRes RAW was variable rate based on the white paper and how the size can vary. But if it always stays 5:1 or greater then that makes sense that’s how they avoid infringement. If that’s true then no reason Z Cam, Canon, Sony, and Panasonic couldn’t all just add it internally. 🤔
IronFilm
Yet more Chinese 8K cameras: Seems the Skyworth 8K is a rip off (but badly implemented) from the Z Cam E2-F8 that they borrowed from Z Cam under false pretenses, but using the Sharp 8K MFT sensor (however stupidly using an EF Mount instead!!!). Yeah EF doesnt make sense on M43 sensor. Wonder if GH6 also gonna use this sensor?

So disappointed there wasn't a Panasonic EVA1 MFT, or even before that a Panasonic DVX200 with a MFT mount. 2 hours ago, ntblowz said: Wonder if GH6 also gonna use this sensor? Hope not! But then again I can totally see them trying to get that "first with 8K" title. (just like they did with 4K) Perhaps they'll do the whole GH5 vs GH5S thing. Perhaps the GH6S will recycle the GH5S sensor, but will figure out both IBIS and 4K 120fps 10bit. That would be quite revolutionary for Panasonic. FranciscoB
One of my biggest curiosities about this camera is the audio quality. Wondering if this could compete with a c300 or c500 for a documentary camera.

In my experience the extra IQ you get with Cine cameras isn't worth the tradeoff over quality of life features like built in xlr, smaller DV style batteries that weigh less, peripherals that don't need an extra power source etc.
FranciscoB
A shoulder rig is something I already have. The quality of life features you mentioned are included in this model, so that's why I was asking. It has xlr, dv battery or v mount, seems lightweight and has plenty of resolutions and codecs to work with.
