Super Members BTM_Pix Posted June 17, 2020 Super Members Share Posted June 17, 2020 Should be worth tuning into this. No idea what they are going to announce but I suppose there will be an update about the full frame Foveon amd hopefully something concrete about a firmware update for the fp. They've mentioned APS-C L mount lenses in the past so maybe they will make an appearance and who knows maybe a camera to go with them? andrgl
Super Members BTM_Pix Posted June 17, 2020 Author Super Members Share Posted June 17, 2020 Seems to be a 100-400mm, 3 x APS-C L mount primes and a TC. Alt Shoo
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted June 17, 2020 Administrators Share Posted June 17, 2020 Wonder what APS-C L mount camera is coming next? Panasonic?
kye
GH6 / GH6S perhaps? It would make sense for Panasonic to push people into their new mount, and as long as there are adapters available then the people with vintage glass won't complain. Alt Shoo
Thanks for this information! I’m going to check it out. I like Sigma and would like to know more about the Foveon sensor technology.
rawshooter
Panasonic has stated that they will make no APS-C camera and stick to MFT and Full Frame as their two sensor formats (and camera systems): https://phototrend.fr/2020/04/interview-yosuke-yamane-panasonic-japon-mars-2020/ DeepL translation (manually enhanced): Do you plan to use the L-mount with APS-C sensors, like Nikon does with the Z-mount? Yosuke Yamane: Our strategy is very clear: we are going to strengthen Micro Four Thirds and full frame L-mount. A small L-mount sensor could create confusion in the market. We have two sensor sizes. If we had three, it could cause confusion, so we will not develop an APS-C version of the L-mount and will focus it on full frame. And what about a mix of Micro 4/3 and full frame? Yosuke Yamane: Sony's E-mount allows both APS-C and full frame, but we don't expect a large number of users of large full frame lenses to want to use smaller Micro Four Thirds sensors. A common Micro Four Thirds and full frame system therefore makes little sense. We understand this demand and we seriously considered it when we developed our full frame cameras to offer a unified format for both full frame and Micro Four Thirds sensors, but we decided not to do so because we believe it does not provide much added value for the user. Video Hummus
3 hours ago, Andrew Reid said: Wonder what APS-C L mount camera is coming next? Panasonic? Maybe they are just cheaper alternatives for Leica ASP-C cameras and a possible ASP-C Sigma camera seems unlikely.. The fp is already full frame and tiny and cheap for what it offers. Any new L-Mount partners are more likely to be up and coming Chinese companies like Z-Cam.
MrSMW
Maybe they are going to fix everything about the 'almost' camera, the *cough* fp? 😘 I love it's concept, it's modularity, it's size, it's image quality and...the rest falls short. I like Sigma. I like their lenses. I like their ideas and the modular camera has to be the future, but please please please Sigma get it right/better next time because there always seems to be a big BUT... Maybe as well as a full frame Foveon, Sigma will do the existing SD Quattro in an fp body? These lenses would obviously be perfect for that. I'm also wondering whether they might be able to offer 10 bit RAW internal on the fp in crop mode ? Again, these would make that a great combo. Even if no other camera shows up, those three primes are pretty great value for money in their other formats so if the L mount ones are the same price then Leica TL2/CL owners should be all over them. Ditto for the original SL in 4K mode.
IronFilm
12 hours ago, Andrew Reid said: Wonder what APS-C L mount camera is coming next? Panasonic? Panasonic won't any time soon, they've basically promised as much, saying that APS-C would overlap too much with their MFT system. (which is logical) Interesting that Sigma is happy to throw a spanner into the works for Panasonic's neatly lined up plans of FF vs MFT (then again why should Sigma care? They don't have a large and well established range of MFT cameras to protect)

Super Members BTM_Pix Posted June 18, 2020 Author Super Members Share Posted June 18, 2020 It was just the lenses in the end then. The 100-400 is about $200 more than the existing EF/F/SA versions but seems to be a complete re-design. Its still very decent value and its obviously got a captive audience for anyone with an L mount camera wanting a long lens. Not sure why they don't have prices for the small primes yet considering they are coming out next month.

MFT is not a wise investment for non-cine camera makers. BMP6K moved the needle too far to compete. APS-C makes total sense. But Panasonic also counted on it's AF system to work properly and no one to be the wiser.
Super Members BTM_Pix Posted June 26, 2020 Author Super Members Share Posted June 26, 2020 Map now has prices for the 3 small primes that were announced and they are more or less the same as they are in other mounts.

Nice! Panasonic S1 in a S35 mode paired with those little primes would be a great combo. Has anyone already seen them available for Fuji X Mount? Can't wait for it.
