Administrators Andrew Reid Posted July 7, 2020 Administrators Share Posted July 7, 2020 This does not do Sony any favours in the good will department. $2999 + tax £2899 in the UK. https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/camera-lenses/sel1224gm Makes me wonder if they will price the "new flagship" A7S II successor at something equally as daft? $6000 maybe? I don't think there are going to be many people willing to pony up this much cash whilst they have little or no work due to corona rules, etc. Geoff CB
newfoundmass
I'm sure it's a lovely lens but Sigma and Tamron are putting out just as good lenses for a lot less. Hard to justify paying that much. Geoff CB and heart0less
JurijTurnsek
How is this even a topic of conversation for a GM lens? When have 1st party top of the line lenses ever been affordable? Just be glad that Tamron, Tokina and Sigma have improved immensely since the 2000s and their lenses are now a top notch alternative at a reasonable price. We could also debate the big difference in 12mm vs 14mm and also the (not) needing the extra stop over the excellent 12-24 f4 lens, but E-mount users are now spoiled for choice in wide angle lens department. Snowfun
It’s pricey, yes. But the wide end (12) is impressive. And, as you say, there are very good, cheaper alternatives. If the “brand” names sold products at “third party” prices the “third party” manufacturers would disappear. Then we’d be in trouble...
