majoraxis
I have not seen Blackmagic make a mistake camera wise, so I have to trust that they have thought this through. If it looks better than other 8k cameras even if it has to start with 12k and subsample then that's fine. A big part of them getting the $10k price tag is if it is the best 8k camera output. I hope it is and that this sensor tech will trickle down. Maybe an 8k version to get perfect 4k in a pocket pro 8k for $3000 in the future. Hopefully, 14 stops will be usable without excessive noise or some fix pattern issue. Hopefully the new sensor tech will not have weaknesses in low light like previous generations. deezid
Super8
If Drive-In Theaters make a comeback 12K down to 8K might be the future in theatrical release motion pictures. PaulUsher
thebrothersthre3
If it has a solid 3200 iso and no fixed pattern noise it will be a winner. That said at the price point you may be tempted to get an FX9 or C300 MK3. BRAW is a huge advantage though and if you want or need 8k or highspeed 4k this really is a unique option at a low price point. I am actually more interested in Gen 5 color science. androidlad
Yes I invented this 12K sensor, which is precisely the same size as RED Komodo at 27.03mm x 14.25mm, and exactly double the horizontal and vertical resolution. And who made the RED Komodo sensor?? 😉 Ok fine, this 12K sensor is a custom version of Canon's 120MXSC, operating in an ROI mode https://canon-cmos-sensors.com/canon-120mxs-cmos-sensor/

Dimitris Stasinos
It seems that while i was sleeping last night, binary computing stepped up. I feel so old now that i have to stick with my good old 8K camera which i haven’t bought yet. A paradox maybe? kye, nickname and dslnc

Im not sure this is representative of the facts. The crop is only for the very high frame rates. For normal shooting, there is no crop at any resolution... 1Ale82
12k camera for 10000 euro/dollars. Probably about as much for the new computer needed to work with those files 🥴😰

SteveV4D
BRAW is a very edit friendly codec that runs well on my computer. At least with Resolve it does. I would wager it will be a lot easier to edit 12K BRAW than 8K H265 files.
ade towell
Yes I think the hi res BRAW in this camera is going to be much more useful and workable than the huge 8k RAW of the overheating R5. The beauty of being able to shoot at different resolutions in BRAW is genius
