Jeremy Clark
I'm moving from a camera with internal ND to one without, and need a variable ND for my sigma 18-35mm (or other variable ND solutions). Anyone have any recommendations?
Geoff CB
I have this one https://www.adorama.com/hykvc77.html. Great image quality with no color cast for me. A bit difficult to get used to at first because you can adjust the circular polarizer on it as well but I haven't found anything with as good image quality as it produces. Looks like it doesn't come in 72 MM though unfortunately 😞
HockeyFan12
I have this but I got it for half price open box: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N1B4LNX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's not bad at all. Slight warm cast but really good otherwise. It might even be the same OEM. You can always use a step up ring fwiw.

A lot of big modern glass is in those filter sizes.

Do you get an x pattern at the stronger end? I have a Tiffen variable ND which is great at the weaker end but it produces a very faint x pattern at the strongest end...what's worse is it is too faint to see in the back screen so I don't even know it's there until I start editing. It can result in an X if you push it past max. The filter does not have hard stops on either end of the ND range. Prefer the internal ND of any pro camera, for obvious usability reasons. Jeremy Clark
I ended up getting this one. Had great reviews, especially on keeping images sharp https://www.adorama.com/slr52vndm2.html
hyalinejim
Yes I have an 82mm SLR Magic that I've used for years. I've never noticed softening or X patterns. There's a slight blue cast that increases as you darken, but it's not objectionable and easy to correct.

Thats funny, the reviews I read said the same, but a slight warm cast (on the MkII 77mm)
hyalinejim
You're right! It is slightly warmer and greener
