Administrators Andrew Reid Posted January 3, 2021 Administrators Share Posted January 3, 2021 Here begins a series of blog thoughts from me on the state of the world and filmmaking in 2021, after humanity decided to go headlong into a full dystopia like you see in the movies. There will in the future be many great cinematic masterpieces about our plight as citizens in the year 2020. Anyone who has seen Black Mirror writer Charlie Brooker’s “Death to 2020” on Netflix can see for themselves the historic plot twists and sheer lunacy of what we’ve been going through the past year. anax276
This is a well written post with a lot of truth in it... The corona crisis revealed what was always there, above all the incredible amount of stupidity in the world. BUT: Remember, this isn’t something new. It has always been this way in the course of human history. The difference now is maybe that we have a better overview, because we’re more „connected“ with every part of the world. We get a lot of information that we cannot handle... However, humanity has continuously improved through the ages. There always are ups and downs (such as wars), of course, but in general, I think the world is a better place. It is (in general) healthier, fairer and more educated, to name some examples. So, don’t lose your courage and faith, we need every responsible and reasonable person to engage in improving the world. stephen

As well as this virus turning life upside down, it has also exacerbated personal issues in relationships and with my mental wellbeing to the point that everything is like a sludge of clay. I strongly agree with your views on internet and truth. When people are using memes as their “news” source, there’s a big problem. Then comes the nonsensical behaviour of our Governments. Nothing can be trusted but we trust in our own stupidity. Social media and internet control is a pandemic in itself, that’s got out of control. It’s a crazy illness that affects us deeply, so Zuckerberg makes money at the expense of your health. The best course of action is to dramatically minimise internet usage and consumption, which I know it’s hard is your job depends on it. But make your usage more meaningful and useful to you, instead of “being the product” that feeds the monster. I still come to EOSHD as you can have an open discussion. There’s very little of that going on, so keep at it. Someone has to. Thpriest
PannySVHS
The core of your website and forum is interesting nerdom and original posts. I think some of your gem like threads need to be curated and repositioned in this forum to get more exposure. I mean the Eos-m digital Super8 thread or your main blog posts about Lomo lenses (beware:) or other classics. Maybe people can contribute articles like on Steve Huff. Does that change the internet. No. But it will prevent us from having to leave the internet and camera nerdom completly behind. Some nerds left this site because of misunderstandings. Regain momentum with your own nerdom and joy of the arts and the nerdom of others as well. Andrew, you hardly interact anymore. Sharing footage and discussion needs to be more present on this forum. Sometimes the quality of reposts should be curated or advised. So much potential for this site. Challenges. You know, the universe is exlored by the right questions and so is the art of cinema, by putting up the right challenges. The 250eu camera challenge was a good start. helium
We may be fucked, but we've always been fucked. The movie industry is fucked because it's full of people who love money and have no literary imagination. The same is true of most of the indie film world. Try finding someone who could pass World Literature 101, Film Studies 101 and Art History 101. And we're all surfeited on fictions, to the point where fiction, and language itself, can no longer convey information. That leaves instruction manuals and people pointing out that the lady who's staring into the fishbowl has clipped skintones. And by now it's an undergraduate commonplace, but no less true, that art is not possible in a culture where everything is aesthetisized. Ads on buses, music in elevators, every sales pitch a vile story. There will be no 9th symphonies in a world drowning in jingles. So forget your unmade and unmakeable movies and party on. Nobody cares anyway. PannySVHS
PannySVHS
@helium People care. They are just being distracted ALL the time. Thats the business model of the "attention economy". It takes trillions of dollars to make people not to seemingly care. It is not an easy undertaking to make these zombies out of us. So art makes a difference. Otherwise you would not have written your post. Contribution is far ahead from most of us but we will see how our kids will do without being like zombies or egomaniacs. World Literature- you mean 11th ce german literature included?:) What is that 101 thing anyway, decimal number 5?:)

It's putting too much pressure on all of us and ruining too many people's motivation to work and socialise. Very dangerous. I totally get how it can exacerbate issues in relationships and that constant anxiety is always there with this bloody virus. Winter doesn't help either. Or Brexit. Or any of our silly clueless governments. I am just waiting for the worldwide economy to have its say in 2021, because we can always rely on a fucking American banker to make things worse when people are suffering! I think the key to the internet is to have a few key friends that you share online chat and activities with, like gaming, or work, or creative projects, people you get on with or know in real life... but then be sure to put some of the strangers at an arms length as much as possible, because these are not real connections and can always flip at any second into outright nastiness over differences of opinion. Facebook is horrendous and can even turn friends against each other for profit. Yeah, long live the open discussion on EOSHD. There are some peoples input and content I really value. Others not so much 😉 Katrikura, PannySVHS and Oliver Daniel
Xavier Plagaro Mussard
The basic problems are always the same. Billions of poor people who can't unite to overthrow the handful of riches. Fucking the planet, regret doing it and keep doing it, rinse&repeat. Koyaanisqatsi has 40 years. It would be great if we could tackle at least one of those before human extinction. mandria
You've got a wicked sense of humor Andrew, implying that Boris Johnson got Coronavirus by shaking hands with coronavirus patients when he got it from an MP. I agree with you that people ignore the facts and only listen to media that only agrees with their point of view
