Popular Post Mihnea Popescu
Hi guys, We just shot this video with the BMCC, Metabones Speedbooster, Nikon Lenses and Iscorama 54MC. RAW files were developped in After Effects CS6 (with Camera Raw) to Prores444 2400/1350. Color grading was done in AE. Please let us know what you think, we'd love to get some feedback. Cheers, Mihnea Sean Cunningham, Dave Reeve, Tim McC and 8 others
Sean Cunningham
Absolutely gorgeous. Great concept too. I'm curious, in the comments section you discuss various diopters being used, were they just for the close-ups? Your lead actor has such an interesting face. All that detail was rather stunning. The edges had a nice subtle falloff in the wides. It looks like you might have center-cropped to something more like 2.40:1 would that be correct? Mihnea Popescu
Hey Sean, thanks a lot. The closeups were used just for the... close-ups. This isco is incredibly sharp, we shot most of the film at f/2.8 - f/4, but even at f/1.4 the adapter is very precise. We didn't crop anything (apart from the digital zoom-ins and 2 shots done with the 35mm + diopters, because of the vignette), basicly we just squeezed the image to a 2.40 ratio in Premiere for the final export. Sean Cunningham
Ah, so just left a slight vertical squeeze. There's another thread here discussing the compression ratio on some Iscos being not quite as stated so that makes sense why it would work. A slight vertical squeeze is far more attractive than the opposite. Great stuff.
Mihnea Popescu
Hi Ivan. The Bmcc is not the best camera out there for low light but it's fine. The speedbooster gives you an extra 1 1/3 stops, the Nikon 50/1.4 becomes a 0.8ish stop. The video was shot on location in Bruxelles. Nikkor
Btw, what did you use for the moving/handheld shots?
Mihnea Popescu
All the moving shots were filmed handheld, the camera was on a rig. We also fixed the camera on 2 cars when he is driving around.
Tim McC
This looks fantastic! What Nikon lenses did you use (aside from the 50mm f/1.4)?
HurtinMinorKey
Whatever they paid you to make this, it probably wasn't enough. :D Fucking masterpiece. Looks like it was shot on film. Great story, great lighting, great shot composition. If forced to nitpick, i would say that the opening shots in the graveyard were not as strong as everything that followed. etidona, Julian and nahua
