yiomo
I think I have watched all the c70 vs a7siii comparisons. My heart wants Canon but my mind says Sony ! The ergonomics, nds, xlrs, colors of the C70 vs the Sony AF.

For now I am most probably leaning towards the a7siii, although I dislike the form factor/ergonomics/etc. If you're doing this commercially and making money from it (which is the only type of person who should buy an FX6, unless you're a rich playboy getting a toy, in which case price doesn't matter... just get the FX6!), then the price gap between an a7S mk2 + basic accessories vs an FX6 is under two grand. In the long run, seems like a slam dunk decision to go the extra cost for the FX6. yiomo and Mark Romero 2

Whilst you're correct in the main with your advice, I don't really think it's up to you to dictate who should or shouldn't buy a particular camera. Plenty of people might want an item like this for artistic or hobby purposes, without necessarily being a 'rich playboy'. I have a FS5, an A7R2 and heaps of lighting, sound and grip stuff because I'm a crazed enthusiast and would-be artist, no playboys here. My mate does up old cars as a hobby and he probably spends three or four times my camera-related costs each year and, guess what, he's not a rich playboy either. IronFilm
Fair enough, I might have slightly overexaggerated my point in my comment. Some people do spend some insane amounts on their hobbies! Be it golfing, drag car racing, stamp collecting, fishing, or whatever! Tim Sewell

Much to my wife's chagrin, the point I make when I compare my expenditure to that of friends who are into boats, motorbikes, vintage cars etc etc is unarguable. If one buys one's equipment in a thoughtful way, favours secondhand and doesn't always chase the very latest thing, cinematography/film-making is by no means an extravagant pastime. Another mate of mine is into breeding rare prawns - I kid you not - where a breeding pair, or whatever they call them, of some species fetch over £500 a pop. When he adds up that ongoing cost (prawns, like humans, are not, sadly, immortal) to his other costs of tanks, filters, electronic gizmos etc he's got an at least Komodo-sized annual habit. TheRealOG
If you want the best bang for your buck? You should dip your toes in the Fuji system. Pick u up a used X-T3 with a battery grip and an adapter. You should be good to go. Fuji has nice codecs and F-Log and the Eterna profile. It'll have 4k 60P too. You can save yourself a lot of headaches and figure out if you want to be dealing with 4k. The 1080P image coming out of it is really nice too. I have owned one too many cameras at this point, but I did upgrade to the a7s iii. I enjoyed the my Fuji cameras which included the 2 T2s, T3, 3 X-H1s, 2 X-Pro2s and the x100F. The image is beautiful, especially if you want to add the speed booster. I ended up with the a7s iii because I had a discount, and I wanted a no-compromise camera for my style of shooting. I do event stuff and the image OOC is finally nice.

I do like Olympus cameras --they never got much luv from video enthusiasts though, not sure why.
yiomo
What about the Panasonic eva1? Could use my canon ef lenses, have internal NDs, XLR inputs, good color science. Price is much less than the c70 and the fx6, almost the same as A7siii and SH1.

Only thing lacking is continuous auto focus.

mrtreve
Get the best camera you can possibly afford (C70/FX6) and ditch your employer as soon as possible. Having an industry standard cinema camera puts you in a good place to pick up jobs. Your lenses will work fine on the C70. I have the C70 and even the cheap EF > RF adapter from Meike works perfectly well. The X-AVC is easier to edit than the HEVC, but you can always transcode. PannySVHS
Yeah, plus, our F3 thread needs more input. I just cannot get myself to be lugging around that heavy sister so I rather grab my S1 for filming fun. TomTheDP

Try lugging around the 14 pound Alexa 😆 I was considering the Sony F35 or F55 as well but they don't carry the same name as Arri. PannySVHS
Your Sony PMW F3 looks like it has seen some good usuage. Sofore it deserves to be called by its full name!:) It looks like you have a tasty Nikon 28-70 2.8 on it. I think we depend on you to put some life back into our F3 thread. :) I start to feel I will sell my F3, as it is much heavier than a FS700. FS700 disappointed me though with very obvious aliasing in internal HD mode on my last gig. I have used it on two commercial shoots so far. F3 internal seems much better from what I have seen online. FS700 tests from back then didnt hint that direction and indicated rather flawless internal HD. @TomTheDP F35 sounds heavy as well:) Imagewise I find it fascinating. So keep em coming!:)

Definitely helps to having something DSLR size for one man crew stuff though.
