WHO AM I- "To the ends of time", an 8bit lover tells his story

Markus Pix is a colorful figure and I posted one of his videos here before. Such a relaxing vibe despite the oversaturated colours in his videos. 🙂

So surfin utubs today brought me back to magic Markus.:)  I like his outgoing and the content which lies between the lines of his presentations. I might not get completely exited by his Hollywood movie "To the ends of time", but I enjoy the fact, that this multitalented vagabound has done a 35mm film, for which he storyboarded, built sets and miniatures after he fi did mattepaintings for Total Recall.

"Who am I" could also be a question to ourselves in order to realize we are much more artistic than being limited by the lack of our cameras regarding 12bit 8K 120p.

So even if Markus´ film is not the masterpiece he is a master of himself and his ambitions and visions.

By the way, Markus was outing himself as an 8bit lover in another of his vids, ranting against 10bit, log and what not. While I might not agree with him on these specifics, I do get his point which I can relate to. So that´s why the title of this thread contains the phrase "an 8bit lover tells his story".

How and who are you? 🙂

I like Markus.

He’s an individual, a character and an enigma.

Seems genuine to me.

Seen the making of his movie but don’t think I could manage to watch it even though I have a nostalgic fondness for some of those 80’s movies.

But fair play to what he achieved and the incredible number of hats he wore on that production.

Btw, beyond the curiosity there is tons of informative stuff to find on Markus channel. Some for affirmation and some pretty insightful. Love the channel. Just gotta leave the direct Californian sunlight once in a while.:)

@mercer
Exactely, that's the one.😊 Sometimes I am just happy about having gotten something kewl out of some content for myself, completely without the urge to debate about it.

He does some very good stuff with lighting.

I was looking for a replacement last week for a light panel of mine that stopped working so went on Da Toob for some insight...

Dozens of 'reviews', mostly unboxings (wish those things would die) of the intended light panel used indoors in low light...where of course it's going to work!

But Markus was the only one I could find actually testing the thing how I'd want to use it. Outside, in full sunshine.

Inside, in low light was a given, - I wanted some real world evidence how something was going to work with a back-lit subject around sunset.

I like him and his channel.

I think what I really like about him is that he's a pragmatist who understands the end-to-end process and that the camera is not the limiting factor.  If he was a little more up-front I think his message of "this camera is good enough" would turn into "this camera is not the limiting factor in your results - your lack of skill is" but of course he's too nice to say such a thing 🙂

The thinking is good, just because I don't agree with his conclusions doesn't mean I don't agree with his thinking - it's far more sound than the un-spoken thinking behind most other channels in the space!

Yeah, if you are really great at something, no matter what it is, you can use the worse equipment out there and still be better than 95% of all the rest of the people with great equipment.

I think a lot of us on here, me included, send a very bad message to the people that are starting up in video, even photography, that you have to have some big ass, high dollar camera to get the job done.  That is about as far off as you can get from true.

It is what is between your ears that count, not the gear. Slow and easy like I have said, with any gear you can afford. There is no such thing as a bad camera, even Smartphones in this day and age. When I was young, yeah you had to have a high end camera,  especially for video, but the playing field is level now no matter the budget.

Even a GX85 in 4K is almost overkill. Almost..:) We shall not forget that film was shot with film. A used G9 can be had for 600 to 800 USD and would be all the digital filmcamera one would need, with the free of charge 10bit update you can film in HLG and 150mbit 10bit 4K plus 100mbit pixelperfect HD up to 10bit 60p.

If content is the attracter of millions of viewers then all kinds and brands of smartphones are already the cams of choice in this world. Cinematic image does not matter in the realm of quick and clever skits and visual sketches and ideas, even less when it comes to the modelling and body optimization videos.

He must have figured something out for he and his wife to look that good at nearly 60.

I think they take care of themselves nutritionally and exercise wise and I’m guessing the numerous patents he has on casino gaming machines help to fund a more relaxed approach to the daily grind, which is a big help.

Also, and perhaps most importantly, he doesn’t seem to be a bitter, selfish and hateful gobshite , as that really does age people very quickly.

As my latest driving license picture testifies.

That is a very valuable statement to read for younger people. It is too late as you near old age, but yeah living in hate is a Really bad way to go through your life. You end up 50 at 30. You have killed yourself more than your enemy. Relax and smell the roses is a very good way to proceed. Time goes by scary fast, especially when you do realize your last drivers license photo makes you a candidate for a horror movie role.

Haha, you guys have a way of putting things. 🙂 Being a millionaire in California is a pretty lush way to enjoy the pleasures of life. But we can do pretty well too if not getting to crazy and grim about those darn specs all the time.:) I mean, Don, as you say, any camera these days can produce some nice images. "It´s what´s between your ears that counts" great saying by Don van Patten. @webrunner5  Now, these special effects videos really make me want to try some kewl stuff out. Lovely!

Like I said, I appreciate his camera channel, but he's deep into the pseudo nutrition/health grift. He has no medical background at all and thus shouldn't be giving out medical advice, like how to cure diseases ranging from Erectile dysfunction to brain cancer. If you want to encourage a healthier lifestyle or diet, fine, but his stuff goes well beyond that.

It's very hard to find much background information on the guy, as he has invested a lot of money into SEO by having seemingly endless websites for himself. Anything critical of him is buried deep in search results. In addition to articles that criticize his stuff, there are also accounts of him hiring stand-ins to appear while he films material for his promotional videos. It's a bit disingenuous to be promoting yourself as this healer and motivational speaker while using staged footage of you giving speeches to paid stand-ins.

The description for this video has a lot more information, too.

A lot of the more ridiculous stuff that used to get made fun of on Reddit, or were completely obliterated by science blogs, have been deleted. Example: https://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2015/05/21/i-thought-id-seen-it-all-epigenetic-birth-control

I like most of his camera reviews.

On the other hand, he certainly knows how to fake things.  Makes one wonder if all of his photo gear give-away contests are legit.

I've actually won something from him, so I don't think they are fake. That is though why I was really bummed out when I found out about the other stuff. I've seen first hand the damage people selling fake cures can cause, and when I saw that and the lengths he went to create a fake image of himself it soured me.

Well, it's reassuring that you actually received a prize.  Was it a camera?
