1tkman
Wow Aaron, we are on the same page! FYI, I am seeing good results and some interesting looks by netting the back of the lens.
andy lee
Formatt make a 1/2 clear Supermist filter it is less harsh than the Tiffen Promist 1/4 I bought 2 last week and they are very good , I have Tiffen Promist 1/4 and 1/2 and the Formatt is of a similar nature bit nicer on skin tones for me give it a try they are not expensive on ebay, I got mine from here http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-FORMATT-72mm-1-2-Clear-Supermist-Camera-Filter-BF72HCLRSU-/181412489104?pt=Camera_Filters&hash=item2a3d06e790

Curious to see how well it works, if I can find one that fits. How often or what percent of the time would you say you are using this filter? AaronChicago
That's pretty cheap. The Tiffen filters are expensive. I'll have to try out this Formatt one.

rndmtsk
As someone interested in pro mist filters but never having used them before, would you say 1/8 is too subtle? Curious about something that would be good all around/ in most situations to start experimenting with, but is also nice to girls faces... I like what this 1/4 is doing here for the most part, but it does take some life out of her skin.
andy lee
the Formatt 1/2 clear Supermist filter is very like Tiffen 1/8 Promist - is more subtle than 1/4 I find Promist 1/4 can be too much in some cases so 1/8 does the job - you can still tell it is there but Promist can look like 1970's soft porn if you do it wrong !! its a very cliched look if its over done. so for me less is more ..... AaronChicago
It adds a cool effect when youre shooting at small lights, like holiday lights. Basically like adding Glow in after effects.
nigelbb
You need to compare at equivalent exposure. The filter shot looks better because the first shot is overexposed & blowing the highlights on the girl's forehead.
AaronChicago
Exposures were equivalent. The Pro Mist reduces contrast. I used it alot on the Gh3 because it was helpful in getting a flatter look.
