Guest Ebrahim Saadawi
Canon just released two exciting ultra wide-angle zoom lenses, - 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM - 16-35mm f/4 IS L ____________________ The 10-18mm is desinged for APS-C sized sensors, (or S35), thus fits Canon EF-S bodies including the C100/300 It has 4 stops of Image stabilization, and the new STM technology which means it's perfect for the Dual-pixel AF cameras. (IS and AF and Ultrawide are a perfect combination for glidecam, Movi kind of use) All that for 299$ (!) Important thing to keep in mind though, it ends at 18mm because it's made to be a companion to the 18-55mm kit lens, and the 55-250mm kit lens, therefore, it is a kit lens. It will have similar build quality, weight and size as the 18-55mm kit lens, which is not bad by itself, but plasticy and fiddly compared to L lenses. I've used it and if you treat her with care, it's excellent optically and does the job for almost no money. So I see no reason not to have this 10-18mm in your kit even as a backup. Exciting lens for those on a budget. ________________________ 16-35mm f/4 IS This one of course is designed for full-frame sensors, so it will fit both EF and EF-S bodies. Canon does have a non-stabilized 2.8 version, but this one will have the advantage of 4 stops of stabilization, and according to MTF charts, it's a much better performer in terms of IQ to nearly all other lenses. It has L build quality of course and will survive the beating. It will sell for 1199$, which is a good price too. _______________________ What do you thing of these? HurtinMinorKey
wrt the 10-18mm: Personally, i feel like 4.5 isn't fast enough for a APSC sensor...but it is damn cheap, so it might be perfect for someone on a budget.
