andy lee
I have the Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm too and I use in with A Zhiyongi Mitakon Lens Turbo speed booster in CANON EF mount - The ZF verion is Nikon mount , dont buy it in Nikon mount buy the ZE Version if you are going to get it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mitakon-Lens-Turbo-Focal-Reducer-M43-Body-Canon-EOS-EF-EF-S-Lens-M43-MFT-Olympus-/161230998872?pt=US_Lens_Adapters_Mounts_Tubes&hash=item258a1dcd58 Get the Lens Turbo in Canon mount as you can they add loads of other lenses to it later on like M42 PENTAX K. NIKON AI , OLYMPUS OM etc etc etc A Canon EF Lens turbo is more versatile than buying one in Nikon mount
andy lee
ps : save your self a fortune and get a Carl Zeiss 50mm Planar f1.7 in Contax Yashica mount I prefer this lens to the one you are getting the ZF2 Planar , the f1.7 Planar is alot cheaper - you dont need f1.4 if you are putting it on a speedbooster f1.7 its just fine and fast enough http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Carl-Zeiss-Planar-50mm-f1-7-T-Lens-with-caps-warranty-/201121790946?pt=UK_Lenses_Filters_Lenses&hash=item2ed3cafbe2 the Carl Zeiss 50mm Planar f1.7 is the KING of 50mm in my book - nothing comes close to it , it is insanely sharp , great contrast and Zeiss colours - a super lens
Nikkor
The zeiss 50 1.4 zf 2 is all about sharpness, I don't think it makes too much sense to put such a lens on a speedbooster. For that money you can build quite a nice MF nikkor AI-S setup (24 2,28 2,35 2,50 1.4 ,85 1.8) and also get the zeiss andy is talking about (I have it and I think the bokeh is too plasticy, but that's a matter of taste). You only have to be patient on ebay.
richg101
I'd interject that the 1.7 planar is a very very good lens. However, the f1.4 version is marginally better. Sod the new zeiss, get the contax 1.7 or 1.4. the 1.4 is twice the price, but the money is well spent... Benefit of the 1.4 is that you close it down by half a stop and the vignette is marginally less than the 1.7. also, running 1.7 wide open + speed booster will result in more purple fringing than the 1.4 closed slightly on the speed booster. Also, re. the mitakon lens turbos... the lens retainer springs are of the 'split pin' style, so the actual spring is made from brass - not a springy material, and starts to loose it's tightness through regular lens changes. the Camdiox m43-ef version has proper stainless steel spring retainers so maintains its coupling better. Optically they're all the same. mechanically, drastically different! zhongi/lens turbo split pin: '> - see how graggy it is? camdiox stainless spring: '> - way nicer.
