William Reynish
New A7s user here. When importing from the memory card, I can only see a list of mp4 files, even though I selected XAVC-S in the camera itself. This is really confusing me - are the mp4 actually XAVC-S files in disguise? Or are the XAVC-S files somewhere else that I can't find? andrgl
Pretty sure MP4 is used as the container for XAVC.
Guest Ebrahim Saadawi
Yes XAVC-S is an H.264 compression format by Sony. It's a commercial name. The codec is H.264 and the "mov." "mp4." "mts." are just containers for that codec.
interceptor121
XAVCS is called like that because it is a non compliant mp4. Mp4 requires AAC audio or PCM instead the Sony XAVCS have a WAV audio that makes them uncompliant. Quicktime won't play it but VLC will
