FilmMan
Sad news. Robin Williams dies. I'll be saying a prayer for the gentleman. Michael1
It's funny. I was not a fan of him in Mork and Mindy, although I know a lot of people who loved the show, But he grew on me as time went on, until I was totally hooked on his his work and looked for it. It's sad to see him go. Prayers go out to his wife, family and friends. Michael

Quirky
Yes, seeing the news in my Twitter feed this morning was a sad start for the day indeed. I've seen most, if not all of his movies, and liked his work in most of them. Everybody knows him from the Dead Poets' Society, Jakob The Liar and maybe even Fisher King, and many will no doubt remember less successful yet great drama movies like Good Morning, Vietnam, and The Final Cut, for example. Apart from the One Hour Photo, he did another serious role as the main villain, in a murder drama set in Alaska, which also featured Maura Tierney, I think. I just don't remember the name of the movie. Anyone? Anyway, he was one of my favourite Hollywood actors, and it his passing is a sad loss. RIP, great entertainer. Quirky
Ah, that was it! I've seen it a long time ago, but had forgotten the name. Thanks for the reminder, FilmMan. (with an apt username, it seems) :)

Guest Ebrahim Saadawi
A sad loss to the entire filmmaking community. Robbin Williams is one of the best actors in the history of Hollywood. May God rest his soul in peace and serenity.
utsira
The same year he did Insomnia and One Hour Photo, he also did Death to Smoochy with Edward Norton. It's very very dark. Ebert gave it half a star, calling it "odd, inexplicable and unpleasant". I loved it! It's not well known at all, it was sort of buried. In the UK I don't think it even got a theatrical release. Definitely worth checking out though as part of a kind of "trilogy" of dark roles he played that year! RIP
sunyata
This story has made me think a lot about an article that came out recently on the connection between creative genius and mental illness. Lucas and Vonnegut were participants in the study, among others. The full paper has yet to come out but the article is a preview of her research. Robin Williams seems to fit right in, very sad. I've seen this relationship for a long time. I've dated some actresses. :) It's a bit of a sad reality, actually. Michael
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted August 14, 2014 Administrators Share Posted August 14, 2014 What I hadn't realised until now was how good a stand-up he was as well as an actor. I had only followed one career.
sunyata
I went to this show with my parents when I was 13. Revealed today that he was suffering from early stages of Parkinson's disease.
