Guest Ebrahim Saadawi
The Arri Amira has been updated to record 3840x2160 ProRes 4444 files, internally to the CFast 2.0 slots, making it Arri's first introduction to the 4K world. Take note that it's not simply upscaling the 1080p image to 4K (which is the highest the Amira could go) The Alexa and Amira share the same 3.4K sensors, but only the highest-end Alexa was able to record that entire resolution at "Open gate" mode. Now the Amira is taking that 3.4K resolution and doing a 1.2x upscale internally to 3.8K, or UHD. (Edit: Not confirmed on how much of the 3.4K sensor is being used, could be the 2.8K 16:9 crop upscaled to UHD or 3.4K 16:9 crop upscaled to UHD, either way, not true UHD or 4K) Very interesting approach from a company that's been almost defensive to 4K. It takes some guts to announce upscaling to a larger format in this saturated market! https://www.arri.de/news/prores-uhd-with-amira/
