Inazuma
Does anybody know what is the effect of changing aspect ratio in ‘4K Photo mode’?http://au.panasonic....pire creativity"4K video recording capability also supports ‘4K Photo mode’, which allows photographers to capture spur of the moment shots by cutting out individual frames from 4K video to create a 3840 x 2160 8-megapixel equivalent JPEG image. In this mode, the luminance level is adjusted to 0-255 which is suitable for photo. Users can also select any aspect ratio (4:3, 3:2, 1:1 or 16:9) when shooting in 4K photo mode by using the aspect switch." There was a video explaining this somewhere. Basically it's like a rapid burst still mode that's limited to X seconds. The pictures are taken at the selected aspect ratio. When the burst is done, it plays back like a video but you can choose which frames to keep. The main advantage of this vs taking an actual video is that all the EXIF data is recorded in the image. Juha
So @andrew Reid did you get your hands on the lx100 and got to shoot with it? Xavier Plagaro Mussard

jsnack
Andrew...can you confirm for sure that it has time lapse recording built-in?
Juha
There are some official Panasonic USA Videos on YT where this Guy Shows the timelapse funktion. So, yes it is in there, yay. "It lets You take 9999 pictures..." I think we will run out of batery after maybe 700 Images, with preview turned off - as the battery is good for 350 shots with lcd on. hoodlum
Someone posted a video comparison of the LX100 and GH4 but setting details were not provided. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfyg0Kjk2DI
Jacek
Someone posted a video comparison of the LX100 and GH4 but setting details were not provided. It is completely fake. They are posting such videos every time new camera is released. (They say they use Panasonic 12-35/2.8 lens on both cameras :D ) Cinegain

(They say they use Panasonic 12-35/2.8 lens on both cameras :D ) Yeah, fake for sure. You can also see the hot pixels staying the same as the camera "changes" in the last few shots. :P Just some before and after editing with the GH4 (or maybe not even the GH4). And for sure if Panasonic would let someone shoot the LX100 on their own, they'd be like... 'and here's someone we provided with the LX100: http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/gallery/lx100/Benjamin_Todd/index.html to shoot some stuff, check it out'. Not hand it over to some guy with a dodgy channel and no views or influence.

freiheit
lack of the function like Cinelike D & V, contrast curve, nor luminance level...that was kinda major thumbs down to me. even FZ1000 equipped almost everything GH4 has (function wise). what you guys think about ? of course the one by Mr.Todd looks good though. animan
unless you really need to fit it in your pocket, FZ1000 looks like a much stronger choice, hope Andrews review is still on the way!
Julian
Biggest downside of the FZ1000 is the lack of wideangle. It's 37-592mm equivalent in 4K movie mode. It is kind of weird that the FZ1000 did get Cine Profiles etc and the LX100 doesn't. What is miss the most is a flip screen though... Inazuma
The contrast curve is there. Most of the weird looking footage you see from the gh4 is because of those Cine profiles. I would avoid using Cine profiles even if they were in it. Especially as the codec is only 24mbps. Yes it's 100mbps at 4k but thats still pretty much the same mbps per pixel seen as 4k is 4x as many pixels as 1080p.

aldolega
Modern compression doesn't scale that linearly though. One quarter of a (properly implemented) 100mb/s 4k shot is going to look better than a full 25mb/s 1080p shot, all else being equal.
Jacek
true indeed yes, shooting 4k for 1080 you could switch to internal 1080 in a push though when you need the extra wide angle.. A problem when you need wide angle most of the time (like me). Another significant difference is low-light perfomance: LX100 has bigger sensor, smaller crop in 4K, faster lens.. Dim (not too dark) indoor scene and FZ1000 fails.

Dim (not too dark) indoor scene and FZ1000 fails. I did some math, and it looks like in 4K: LX100: ~2.4x crop vs full-frame = ~6x smaller sensor area vs full-frame FZ1000 : ~4x crop vs full-frame = ~16x smaller sensor area vs full-frame So in 4x FZ1000 uses ~2.6x smaller sensor area than LX100. It will undoubtedly affect ISO perfomance (at least 1 stop, and probably more). Maximum aperture: 1.7 vs 2.8 = 1.5 stop difference. Maximum low-light performance difference will be at least 2.5 stops. It is big, especially when you will se that even LX100 will not go far into dim corridor.. animan
Same as any camera it depends what kind of video you shoot.. For some lack of audio / flip screen are dealbreakers, extra wide / lowlight arent.. Both great cameras for the price! A problem when you need wide angle most of the time (like me).
