JohnVid
I don't have facebook so raised the questions here, in the hope that somone with direct contact might ask the RIGHT questions but you seem to want to keep it on the topic of Who wants one, I am one of those kinds of people who asks a few questions before buying anything, not after, I'm not asking for their secret recipy, there are always other realizations after. I read here that people wheren't too enamoured with the SLR Magic after the fact, Is there a more open FM lens topic here where I can ask the questions. It doesnt matter who is selling something Sony Canon or whoever, if I asked a question I would expect at some point an answer, not to be told to ask elsewhere, that would only get my back up. I certainly wouldnt buy anything of anyone who tells me they wont answer my question until i'm a paying customer, I also try to stear clear of middle men. ( but you seem to want to keep it on the topic of Who wants one) I am keeping on the topic of who is interesting on a possible future unknown discount, which is quite different, sorry. You can read it on the first page of this topic, where I thought it was quite clear. I hate facebook, I am using my wife's one to ask questions. I am not buying anything yet till all the questions have been answered, you are not the only person who asks question before buying. You could if you want contact them directly at sales@anamorphicshop.com. They will clear out all your doubts. I hope I helped you out, please don't take it in the wrong way. richg101
I havn't seen anyone ask for money yet. Commurit is compiling a list of buyers so he can go to anamorphic shop and get a deal for you. I sent an email to anamorphic shop asking to be put on the waiting list the day it was announced. no money was asked for in the reply, just that they would be intouch when it is ready to sell. so we know that up until this point answers aint available. it's the way specialist products are made and sold. until someone is asking you to pay for something they are not obliged to tell you anything. Let's be patient and I am sure once the product comes up for sale the answers will be there for you. The guy could have done a kickstarter and never delivered like 90% of the bullshitters out there, but instead is doing things properly it seems. Let's all grow up a bit and stop worrying so much! richg101
I was hoping for a little more on the footage side, at least a sunset through the wheat would have been something, but watching these slow rollouts is torture, they should not be 2-3minutes on the same shot, more variety needed. Knowing how long before final production would be good too, What is the focal length of the taking lens, minimum without vignette, and max aperture? total weight? Having the thing cloak the anamorphic in black is a nice touch, though some might like red or gold anamorph on show, but is the shroud needed to keep light out? is there much gap between anamorphic and front elements, wondering if any light can actually hit the gold and cause additional flares/halos? Still wondering how many anamorphics will work with it. Who here uses Square front anamorphics, and are they any better? they've told us the focus range ios 0.5m-inf. they've shown the focus rotation in their how to install video The helicoid is obviously mounted further back to save costs (if it was the diamater of the outside of the optics it would be a fortune to make - this is why the thing shrouds the whole lens. logic would tell you that if a cinelux anamorphic is paired with an f2 matching lens originally, then the lens can deliver f2 or batter on the 35mm format. logic would also tell you that they'll have selected front optics capable of delivering without adding vignette to the cinelux. it's nearly impossible to know what reflections might happen inside, but this is the only solution so it'll be a like it or lump it situation I imagine. most technical people are not also visually creative - probably why the tests are a bit lack lusture. the delivery of this rather lovely piece of well priced engineering is astounding and his tests so far show anyone with a shred of knowledge on the dark art of using anamorphics all they need to know. JohnVid
Ok no worries, perhaps they have a linkedIn page coming, which I believe shows a more professional face(even though I'm not sure its fruitful or productive for me), I know the marketeers say you have to be on facebook, but it all seems a bit of a vacuous fad. I thought release was any day, so wondered why no answers, no chatter,, and no night stuff with flares yet. Some threads are far more interesting when they deviate from initial topic. Monday Morning 2nd coffee & a storm in a teacup :) Cosimo murgolo
JohnVid
they've told us the focus range ios 0.5m-inf. ok but have we seen it do it? they've shown the focus rotation in their how to install video So how many turns are needed? The helicoid is obviously mounted further back to save costs (if it was the diamater of the outside of the optics it would be a fortune to make - this is why the thing shrouds the whole lens. Further Back still needs to be over 71mm right? or it would have to taper, to meet back of focus group/helicoid, which would be 71mm or larger, either way I thought the tube still rotates one of the front pairs logic would tell you that if a cinelux anamorphic is paired with an f2 matching lens originally, then the lens can deliver f2 or batter on the 35mm format. So which f2,(minimum focal length) is that what the demo's show? My om 50mm 1.8 on f2 sould be ok then, but I think I want & need less than 50mm, perhaps ideally 35mm on aps-c though this could change. logic would also tell you that they'll have selected front optics capable of delivering without adding vignette to the cinelux. Cool, hopefully that is the case, if it produces no vignette on full frame, but at which focal length. it's nearly impossible to know what reflections might happen inside, but this is the only solution so it'll be a like it or lump it situation I imagine. Not so impossible with a bright light. I would expect that the light from outside doesnt hit the gold coating at any point, unless it hits the rim, which could produce something interesting or useless? most technical people are not also visually creative Tell Me about it! - probably why the tests are a bit lack lusture. the delivery of this rather lovely piece of well priced engineering is astounding and his tests so far show anyone with a shred of knowledge on the dark art of using anamorphics all they need to know. If it looks good it is good, right? as much as I love black anodized stuff & engineering craftsmanship, & low prices, my attention span looks for immediate gratification, and I am dying to see the battle of the 2x Focus adapters, I've seen some great video's produced with other gear, interesting looks that may not be anamorphic, but maybe easier to achieve interesting retro results. Cosimo murgolo
yes there is a big mark up on these - they wont cost alot to manufacture Andy, I could say the same for your tecnoir Anamorphic cinemascope lens holder. But I don't say anything cos I cannot prove it. So please! Julian
andy lee
Comurit :- I think you have just revealed your hand : my suspisions are now confirmed I do think you are involved with theanamorphicshop.com and you are the proxy on this forum for them. Liszon
Ah come on. And if he is involved or not, who cares. Let's not accuse each other. Such a small community here, don't kill it. Cosimo murgolo, valid and dahlfors
Julian
WTF Andy, why? Because he has a point on your business? How do you know this FM lens is cheap to manufature? Nobody has seen it in real life. And does the price matter? The maker can ask whatever he wants, even if it costs only $5 to make. dahlfors, valid and Cosimo murgolo
dahlfors
Material & production cost is not everything. You really have to count the time and effort needed to manufacture a unique product.I wouldn't spend countless of hours making something custom as this. I'd rather pay a price premium for the time and effort someone else has put into making the product, since I don't have the time to do such customizations myself.Same thing with the Dog Schidt Optiks lenses I bought. I could probably spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to mount Helios lenses to my Nikon camera and find some really cheap Helioses in auctions. But DSO lenses were affordable enough that I rather pay for someone else having spent time to figure out a solution ready-made for me (besides the other custom options provided by DSO).When it comes to my Ultrastar, it's pretty much lying in the shelf, useless since I can't be arsed with the alignment and dual focusing. This product would finally make it useful. Of course, I'd rather see that the price is as low enough as possible, but I can still understand that for a custom unique product like this - there has to be some kind of price premium for the effort that went into making this. I already have 5 kids I don't want put up with another one, please. You can imagine and fantasize whatever you like in your mind but please think twice before you write something like that. As moderator you should play nice and understand a good action, instead you are teasing a good behavior without giving any prove. andy lee
I do think if you are sending money in advance for this item collectively as a group on this forum to get some form of discount, then you should find out exactly who you are dealing with. I have said this before no one knows who anamorphic shop are. I personally believe people should post under their real names if money is involved. You all know my name as I post as me - Andy Lee - from day one on here. As one of the Mod team on here just be cautious and know who you are dealing with when you send money. Julian
It takes two clicks to find comurits real name. It's good to be cautious, there's no need to be paranoid and start accusing people. There hasn't been any mention of sending money in advance. It's still just a list with people that are interested. This could work perfectly without sending money in advance by the way.
