mtheory
First hipsters getting into DOP'ing, now this... Channing Tatum is going to be a director. No...just no...
Nikkor
It's like Paris Hilton acting as DJ charging 1millon $.
Cinegain
Or you could think of it as less challenging competition? :P Might even inspire some to pick up cinema? Although, who knows, maybe it's a hidden talent of him and he's actually pretty good at it.
mtheory
To "pick up cinema" ? That's precisely the problem...filmmaking is not yoga or golf...you don't casually pick it up on a weekend...
tosvus
I won't compare him to Eastwood yet, but there are examples of people that turn out to be good both in front of and behind the camera.
Guest Ebrahim Saadawi
He might turn out to be the greatest filmmaker in the history of cinema. We have no idea. Let him take a shot at it and we'll see if he has it.

Good luck. richg101
Guest Ebrahim Saadawi
Lol that is funny and I am not familiar with that individual really, but why do you guys think that specific person has no filmmaking/directing talent/potential? Did he direct something aweful lately?

cantsin
Other actors-turned-filmmakers: Sidney Lumet, Woody Allen, Terry Gilliam, Charlie Chaplin, Sergej Eisenstein, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Takeshi Kitano... (And Kitano is considered a low-brow tv comedian in Japan and an arthouse director in the West.) Just saying...
Guest 560a4aedcb80685284629074497fdc75
Sofia Coppola, ben affleck, sly Stallone ... dubious actors who have made good films.
fuzzynormal
Sidney Lumet, Woody Allen, Terry Gilliam, Charlie Chaplin, Sergej Eisenstein, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Takeshi Kitano... Random additions: Orson Wells. Ron Howard. Jodi Foster. Angelina Jolie. Dexter Fletcher. Lake Bell. Tim Robbins. It's a long, long list. Damn near every actor with a bit of ability seems to give it a shot. Why that should discourage anyone interested in making their own stuff escapes me. Quirky
Ron Howard, Danny DeVito, even Mel Gibson... and all the others already mentioned. Danny's debut direction The War of the Roses even became a small hit in 1989. Channing Tatum may or may not succeed in his endeavour but the point is, the encouraging, positive vibe inside this forum is quite palpable these days. ;) If some young actor's aspirations to become a DP is making you want to quit cinema, maybe you should. Oliver Daniel
Pointless thread. Leave Channing alone. He has muscles and stuff. mtheory
dafreaking
I'm sure Channing Tatum is reconsidering his decision after reading this. mtheory and Zach Ashcraft
fuzzynormal
Pointless thread. Leave Channing alone. He has muscles and stuff. And he can dance. And if Footloose taught me anything, it's that if you can dance, you can change the world. mtheory
