Liszon
Hey Häns, did you shoot anything new with the FM recently? (:
artiswar
Follow focus and a suitable shoulder pad will be had today. Hopefully I'll get some stuff up later in the week.
Kristoferman
Correct...you could get a 105mm reversing ring to give a female thread up front to attach filters, but it does seem to make more sense to locate ND's in front of the taking lens. Thinking about it, if a Vari ND or CPL was upfront - the rotation when focusing would cause highlights and reflections to be altered by turning, so Vari ND location on taking lens is the only way it seems. (unless fixed inside a rail mounted mattebox using a filter tray adapter) I keep forgetting this darn lens rotates. hmmm interesting thanks for the info. Just sucks that i'll have to move the anamorphic further away from the taking lens glass.
Hans Punk
hmmm interesting thanks for the info. Just sucks that i'll have to move the anamorphic further away from the taking lens glass. It's all good, a Vari ND should not be too thick to cause issues...and the Cinelux in particular seems to benefit from using a tighter lens (85/100mm + on full frame), as it's edge warp distortion is reduced - which will mean that taking lens proximity is not as critical to avoid vignette. Kowa will be the same but with no warp edges to worry about shooting through. A tighter lens when outside is much more interesting IMHO, especially when using 2x anamorphic. Kristoferman
Makes sense...Welp i'll give it a shot.
artiswar
Follow focus is gonna be a real challenge for this lens. The travel distance is humongous. Custom gear ring might be the only real solution here. Currently rigged up with the 50 Dollar Follow Focus from Hondo Garage. Hoped that this would aid in the long throw. Unfortunately, it takes multiple go rounds to go from minimum to infinity. I'll do some tinkering and see if I can't get it to work. https://www.dropbox.com/s/x4opfj8ysdudxvf/Photo%20Dec%2008%2C%205%2008%2005%20PM.jpg?dl=

richg101
Those damn ninja star aperture blades then the 85/2 is set to f2.8! Other than that, the results are really good and i like the glow. I have a feeling it might be from the cold - creating misting on one or more of the optics? Cosimo murgolo
JohnVid
I wonder if there would be a need for a new housing for the FM, one with a non rotating lens arrangement Focus wheel, shorter lighter with rail mount?
artiswar
Follow focus issues solved for a VERY cheap price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Made-Seamless-Follow-Focus-Gear-for-Your-Lens-/251662099567?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a983ae46f
Liszon
Nice find, but.. ...Sorry, custom follow focus gears are not available outside the United States at this time... Ehh. Hopefully there's someone else who makes gears like this in the EU.
Kristoferman
I could potentially buy them for you and re-ship them if you'd like. Liszon
artiswar
It shouldn't be too hard to reverse engineer. 3D printed delrin.
Hans Punk
Nice find, but.. Ehh. Hopefully there's someone else who makes gears like this in the EU. Raf will make one for around $99, he is based in Belarus. His gears are all metal and anodized. http://rafcamera.com/
Kristoferman
I see Raf has follow focus gears for OCT-18 lomos but i've heard that OCT-18 lenses aren't FF compatible? What's the dealio? Wouldn't mind snagging some cheap OCT-18 lomos
Liszon
Thanks for the offer Kristof, first I have to save up for the FM itself, haha. Cosimo murgolo
valid
BTW Sean (the US guy you posted) does make gears for the UK. I've ordered 3 gears from him before, one for my Kowa B&H. Just message him directly and he'll sort you out ;-)

Kristoferman
Thanks for the tests, Hans. How are you liking it in general? I think it looks fantastic, personally. richg101
richg101
I agree. The 85 at f2 looks wonderful. it's got that look I love from anamorphics. As it gets cleaner it's still anamorphic, but not LOMO anamorphic like it looks wide open
