DaveH
Hi, I am new to video, but am a long time stills photographer.I am looking for a loupe/viewfinder for a 5D Mk3 - any recommendations? This question is fairly price sensitive! Thanks!
QuickHitRecord
I use this one: http://www.kinotehnik.com/products/lcdvf/overviewI have been pretty happy with it, and the price was right. DaveH
DaveH
Thanks That looks like the right kind of quality and price.Do you think there is any advantage to having a flip style loupe for reviewing footage straight from the LCD or is it fine to review through the loupe? Thanks again! QuickHitRecord
I like this one because it doesn't require anything placed underneath the camera like a lot of flip-up loupes do, which allows me to use a quick-release plate of my choosing (in my case, I like the low-profile and anti-twist features of the Really Right Stuff arca swiss plates). pablogrollan
pablogrollan
I have a kinotehnik and a zacuto and despite the price difference, I believe I prefer the kino... comfortable and light, and as QuikHitRecord says it doesn't interfere with plates. DaveH
Great, thanks!I was recommended the Zacuto, but it's out of my price range.I think I'll go for the LCDVF 3C.Is it worth adding the diopter kit? (I'm slightly short sighted)
jcs
I purchased one of these for $129: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EAXU6UM/ (price has gone up). Optically excellent if the mount works for you. The viewfinder is held securely by a magnet, with no tape/glue on the camera. The magnet came lose (super glued from factory?), however easily fixed with clear tape (could also use super glue, epoxy, or perhaps the new UV cured liquid plastic). The tape is only need to keep the magnet from sliding out (other axis held by metal). I mounted a handle on one of the rails- makes for a compact, stable platform. aldolega
If you need a budget option, the Carryspeed loupes are a decent imitation of the LCDVF.
