Nick Hughes
I've only seen Birman, but damn it was a good movie in all regards.
Nikkor
Birdman was great, I haven't seen "Unbroken" but between the rest I think Birdman should get that one. I never thought wideangle could look that good, beside the whole secuence-shot thing.

jcs
The Grand Budapest Hotel had so much excellent camera work that I purchased it to study. Great story, acting, pacing, art direction, music too! Haven't seen Birdman- heard it was great, will watch it soon. AaronChicago
This is a toss up. Birdman was very inventive and took an enormous amount of skill and precision. The Grand Budapest Hotel just looked so great with the various aspect ratios, and framing. Haven't seen the others yet, but they look pretty standard. Zach Ashcraft
I was disappointed in Unbroken overall as a film. I think the book ruined it for me as its far better. Nothing wrong with the cinematography of course, Roger has done a beautiful job as always. I love his use of color especially in the pre-war section of the film. Hopefully he wins one one day. Grand Budapest is the only other one I've seen and I really enjoyed it on all accounts.

Very different performance out of him that I have seen before. He's not really playing a comedy role and I think he does quite a good job. Julian
Haven't seen Birdman yet, watched the video above here, reading about it now. Awesome cinematography. Love the wide angle combined with the shallow focus. Have to see this! It's shot on Alexa with a Leica 16mm T1.4 and Master Prime 12mm T1.3 mostly. That's some crazy stuff, if they shot wide open, that's even less dof than you'd get on fullframe usually - or you would have to be shooting with a 18mm f/2.0.http://www.cinematographydb.com/2014/11/cinematography-birdman-emmanuel-lubezki-asc/I also loved the cinematography of The Grand Budapest Hotel. Crazy combination of anamorphic wide shots and 4:3. Really suits the film. jcs, Hitfabryk, Ivar Kristjan Ivarsson and 2 others

mtheory
Mr.Turner is actually a great achievement in terms of oldschool cinematography...all of the amazing painterly landscapes and skies in that film were done in-camera, without vfx.
