Administrators Andrew Reid Posted January 5, 2012 Administrators Share Posted January 5, 2012
Once again the rumours were right and the no-show of Canon’s G12 successor has been explained by the appearance of a pro-compact with much larger 1.5 inch sensor and DIGIC 5. Rather than just cut and paste the press release like so many blogs do, I’ll take a deeper look at what this all means.Read full article
Luis
I still don't quite believe those specs. Why make a slightly bigger sensor instead of using the same one as the S100? Really, 1/1.5" is just marginally bigger and won't give any real advantage in S/N ratio or control over depth of field (especially with slower lens than the smaller and cheaper S100). But it it's a 1.5" sensor (or 1.5 crop factor) then it means APS-C size. Again, why not use the same sensor that they use for DSLRs in that case? And with such sensor, how to make a 4x zoom starting at f/2.5 that's small enough for such type of camera? I think we should wait for official announcement to be sure of what this is. Amro Othman
I know I'm nitpicking but you made a typo at the end of the article: "2012 is going to be a big year for Canon product releases, with the 1Dx and G1x followed by the 5D Mark II, 650/700D and possibly even the 4K Cinema EOS camera, mirrorless system and 7D Mark II by the end of the year." Should be Mark III no? :D

hoodlum
The online communities are underestimating the sensor size. Many will be surprised with the announcement next week. This is what the Nikon 1 should have been.
hoodlum
As expected it has a 1.5" sensor which fits between APS-C and m43. http://***URL removed***/previews/canong1x/
Sara
I like it. Price will have to go under $500 for me to buy one. Will be difficult to swallow such a slow lens at the long end however...barf. If video quality is strong it might be a fun camera.
sandro
I really wonder how the resolution will be. if Its gh2 like then it's a waste it has a fixed lens
