mtheory
Northlight site has just reported a rumour that 1DC will be discontinued due to poor sales, and will be replaced with a 5DC this year that will come together with a 5D4. This might mean that Canon decided to follow the Sony strategy of "spraying" features in across multiple bodies of the same line....responding to A7, A7R and A7S with 5D4, 5DS and 5DC.GENERAL PURPOSE : A7 x 24MP = 5D4 x ?HIGH MEGAPIXEL : A7R x 36MP = 5DS x 50MPLOW LIGHT : A7S x 12MP = 5DC x ?Is this what they meant by a "modular" system? A 5DC at around 16-18MP with internal 4K and superior low-light performance @ $3.5K could indeed challenge A7S as the top stills/video low light king... Nikkor
5DC = 1DC in a smaller body, 5Dmkiv=mkiii with two additional firmware gimmicks.
Cinegain
I'd approve that message.
eleison
Between dynamic range and low light performance, Canon is too far behind. They make good dslr camera (1DC, c300, etc, etc..), but on the imaging side, it doesn't look good. Canon imaging sensors are obsolete. Unless they use sony sensors, I don't think it really matters if canon decides to "spray" features. After all, I'm not sure people will pay $3000+ for a dslr that shoot great video, but has bad dynamic range, iso range, etc. "Spraying" works if you have the technology to do segmentation. Otherwise, it's another word for "crippling". Canon will not have a great camera for another 2 year at the minimum. That being said, my next camera will be the new version of the a7s..
