Help me decide! (Put me out of my misery)

Hello!

New around here - thought I'd get some input. To give you some background, I'm a photographer who's getting requested to do more and more video projects. I'm at the point where I need a new system. I currently have a Nikon D600 and it works fantastic for still, just falls apart when grading video.

Here's my criteria:

  • Needs to be somewhat compact (as I'm travelling with it quite a bit)
  • Needs to be able to take stills well (as I'll be using it for that when travelling on shoots)
  • Needs to be reasonably priced
  • Can be graded decently well
  • Would ideally like to be part of a team that updates their firmware on a semi-regular basis
  • Would love for it to be better video quality than I currently have with the D600

Here's my thought process: Buy a cheaper camera body, spend the money on lenses and any other upgrades like cages, atomos, etc I need. Or buy a more expensive body, and use a metabones adapter with my Nikon lenses (already hearing that the autofocus doesn't work the greatest with this solution)

Options (thus far)

Low end:

  • Sony a6000
  • Lumix GM5

Mid end:

  • Sony A7II
  • Olympus E-M5 II

Higher end:

  • Sony A7S (I'd have to sell my Nikon D600 for this option)

Random thoughts:

  • Sony RX100 III
  • Lumix LX100
  • Samsung NX1/ Lumix GH4 (Although they're too bulky for my purpose)

So as you can see I'm scatter brained. I'm in no rush, but ideally would like something before a wedding shoot in May - so if Sony A7000 would be my cure I could wait :)

Any help is greatly welcomed, and thanks in advance.

Thanks all for your reply! I think I'm going to wait for NAB in April before making a decision. I think I want to avoid most Nikon dSLR bodies just because of the bulk - looking for something relatively light/compact.

Cheers!
