The poor-shooters Alexa 65?

"I ruined a lot of shots just because I thought a $10,000 camera setup would transform my bad lighting and framing into something cinematic."

Flawless quote.

I've used mine as the A camera on 2 short films so far - one for Four Points Film Project and one for a local short film festival called Z Fest.  My favorite modes are the 5.8k 2.39 mode that uses full sensor width and the full size 4k mode where I can choose between decent RS and high dynamic range.  I also like the 8k mode, but less for the resolution and more for the crop to vary up my prime focal lengths.

It also doesn't hurt that the Fuji 110/2 is probably my favorite lens that I ever used on any format/camera.  Going in for a any sort of close-up with that lens feels like you just typed a cheat code into your monitor.

For most shorts that I shoot, I'm way more likely to just grab the C70 or the K-X.  The Fuji can make some amazing images, but I'm always having to think about which mode I'm in and which positives/drawbacks that mode has...  plus the big sensor can create some problems.  Like, if I put on a fast manual lens with character that I like, I might need to stop it down to f/4 to get enough working DOF to keep the talent in focus while they move (or to have the tip of their nose still in focus while their eyes are sharp) - and by f/4, a lot of the character that I like in that lens vanishes.  This objection is reduced a lot with native or EF glass, though, since the eye detect AF is really decent (back to the 110/2, did I mention that I love that lens?).

That said, if I'm traveling and can only bring one camera, it's a no-brainer for me.  The GFX 100 II is by far the best all-around camera I've ever touched.  I've taken it to Turkey and Brazil since getting it and never found myself wishing I had another camera with me.  There's a reason that my answer in the "If you could have only one camera..." thread was simply "GFX 100 II."  😁

Hello! I have been looking for GFX 100 ii F log video files to download and grade in Davinci Resolve but I can't find anything online. The above Wetransfer link you have provided has expired also. Can you repost it please? That would be amazing :)

I just poked around - most of what I have with people is either for short films that I shot for others or with friends who would be upset if I shared their image to an internet forum.

If it's OK for the people to be a bit out of focus (just for a skin tones test or something), I have a few from one of my own short films with people in the foreground or background.

This is always my challenge.  I have a project that I use for colour grading practice and testing that has two main sections, one with private images that are absolutely full of skintones, and the other section for images I can post publicly that scarcely has any because people don't want to be posted publicly.

Yeah nobody wants to see your homemade porn, Kye.

Do you have any clips of people by chance?

Good news!  I had forgotten before that I had the GFX 100 II when I went to Turkey last year.  I added a clip of a bunch of people fishing from a bridge in Istanbul with tourists passing behind them.

one of the best camera introduction videos. fuji should hire him to promote the cameras.

I feel that the still photos in the video are much more eye catching than the video clips.

How is the readout speed in the binned 4K mode? Apparently on the upcoming Eterna, they’ve confirmed it will have open gate video, based on the binned sensor mode.

With standard DR, it’s fine - I think around 16ms.  With extended DR which gives about  another stop, it’s quite slow, probably around 30ms.

So 16ms for 12bit, 30ms for 14bit.

I'd be interested to see the difference in the shadows, probably not that much?

16ms is pretty good given it's a 100 megapixel sensor.

Yeah that really is! I would expect the additional vertical lines to add a small amount but still expect it to be well within a workable range.

Fuji has been leaving open gate video on the table then with the GFX. Since it is the same processor and sensor, I hope they add the mode to the hybrid body also, as those will be more affordable used at some point than Eterna likely ever will be.

I think it could be interesting if they made a cinema camera with the 50s sensor but get the readout speed to faster levels. Maybe a nice compromise? Sort of the X-H2s version for the GFX system with better RS.

I’ve heard a lot of people mention they like the look of the 50s over the 100s for various reasons.

I hope Eterna does well but it’s a tough crowd. The Open Gate will help though, that’s a truly unique sensor size for a motion picture camera.

If it does well we’d almost certainly see a version with the XH2S sensor, which would be an equally wonderful camera. I do have an extremely high regard for Fuji’s physical/ergonomic design. They do excellent work where others get cluttered or awkward.

It's true that the 100 megapixel sensor is a bit overkill, the 50 would have been a good sweet spot for an 8K/4K medium format camera with even better low light performance than the GFX 100.

I am hoping they get a new fast stacked 50 megapixel sensor out... But I question whether medium format users demand the speed.
