Oh yeah, and each lens is fully parfocal (after about a 5 minute back focus calibration) and has 0 breathing. Oh, and the image is beautiful with great falloff and smooth bokeh, and imo it's sharp without being clinical, but also keep in mind that I've used mine exclusively on a Komodo-X which has OLPF which renders most lenses less clinically sharp than they really are. 😅 The only real drawbacks that I've found so far are that using the macro switch might knock my backfocus adjustment slightly out of whack (I still need to verify, but it seems to be the common factor in both cases - both times, I still had usable images, but with the focus noticeably slightly off) and that on the K-X, I have to take off the hood when using any lens wider than around 22mm or I'll get a hard vignette in the corners. With the hood off, there's plenty of coverage. Anyway, IMO a used MK set is the best value in cinema nowadays. And shoots are going a lot faster without me swapping primes every 20 minutes. 😅 IronFilm

Hardly cinema lenses. 8mm movies were just consumer level cameras. The film version of GoPros or mass market cameras. The optics weren’t anything that was going to make a meaningful imaging difference to the end result. Many of their 35 stills lenses have been adopted and used on cinema cameras and are revered (aside from focusing the wrong way) But Nikon never made their own native “cinema” lenses for motion picture cameras. 8mm cameras don’t count. They made 16mm lenses as well, so while I agree with your point about 8mm, it's different with 16mm as that's where professional usage often starts (although a few non-pros used it, maybe you might argue 16mm is "prosumer")

I’ve never seen 16mm format Nikors. Seen a few 8mm in the wild. I stand by what I said. Nikon have never made cinema lenses for “movies” They made 8mm lenses mostly for their own Nikon branded 8mm HOME movie cameras. They made some broadcast (tv) lenses which I think were only for the local Japanese broadcast market.

Davide DB
Speaking about old (non cinema) lens I saw a couple of post from Filippo Chiesa on FB about these Hong Kong lens NONIKKOR 🙂 https://artralab.com/#page-4 eatstoomuchjam

My mistake. I didn’t see those links. They aren’t lenses that were ever widely available or made. I suspect they were maybe only for the Japan market. I’ve never seen those 16mm lenses. And they “probably” are really for the broadcast video market. Davide DB
eatstoomuchjam
They were literally called "cine-nikkor." IronFilm

For that price I could just pick up a Voigtländer or similar one of those higher-ish priced manual lens. (maybe even Zeiss? Hmm... maybe a step too far, unless going secondhand) Davide DB
MrSMW
I watch just one review and apparently the lens is completely dumb ad does not talk to the camera in any way? Yes, I'd go for a Voigtlander over this.

I mean it is mainly aimed at an audience that wants to take a whim off and look cool. BTW I agree, Voigtlander! IronFilm

(which is hey also the same the old Nikon Df existed for. And a similar market that Fujifilm often targets.... just look at their X-Pro or X-T etc series) I certainly do understand the appeal myself. MrSMW
I’m regretting selling mine now. Quite fancy one again with the Voigt 40mm f1.2… Only thing is, lack of AF which I would need and would rather not be changing lenses to have so probably would need to be Sigma 35 or 50mm f2… BUT NO, AAAAARGH, not happening! Well, maybe if an S2R appears and then my entire apple cart might get upset…

The thing with Fuji is they are not so much consciously targeting hipsters and the camera designs are not a fake clone of a prior era. They are designing photography tool classics in good taste, for the modern era. Would be great it Canon could do the same and not a separate niche line, but an EOS R5 Mark II which FEELS more like a camera and less like an inkjet fucking printer.
