Ludicrously lightweight boom mics: new Deity S Mic 3 & 3S

Who wouldn't want their boom to be even lighter?

The new Deity S Mic3 and S Mic3S are out. All the goodness of the S Mic 2 but now even lighter. (by a lot! The S Mic3 is less than half the weight of a NTG3 or 416, the S Mic 3S is nearly half the weight of the S Mic3)

I like also that you can buy the Deity Windshields separately as well (there are two versions: W01 & W02, shorter & longer). Should also be compatible with a lot of non-Deity mics as well.

Nice!  Even outside of boom use, I have an s-mic 2s that I use with my C70.  Guess I know what I'll get to use with the k-x as soon as I get an xlr adapter for it!

Kinda tempted to get a Deity SMic3 myself (or a secondhand Deity SMic2), as I'd rather not put a pricey Sanken CS1e on a camera as a scratch mic when I'm on someone's shoots.

I ended up ordering the s-mic 3s.  Showed up today.  I laughed more than a little bit at the box it came in (the image at the top of the thread didn't register with me for some reason).  Nice of 'em to include a wooden box, but it's kind of a bummer there's not an option to order without the fancy box for what's going to be used as an on-camera mic!

How much better are these than holly larks ?

The Deity S Mic3 series of mics are a million times better?

How much better is a chicken than a canoe??

It's two completely categories, the hollyland larks are 2.4GHz wireless kits.  These are XLR boom mics.

I’m naive on audio, but as a layperson didn’t hear the difference you colorfully write about in videos like this

You're watching a video with a single person in an otherwise-quiet room.  Unless listening on high-quality speakers/headphones, the differences will be negligible.

Here's a more useful YouTube search for you to be able to understand why a cardioid or supercardioid mic is different from an omnidirectional mic and when you might choose to use one vs the other.

Thanks I couldn’t find a video showing shotgun vs. the smaller mics which would show the quality difference.

As something to put on my camera and pick up noise when the camera is pointed at something, much better, I suspect.  Guessing the larks are omnidirectional and would pick up all sorts of other stuff like focus motor, me breathing, etc.

Makes no sense whatsoever to put both a wireless receiver and a transmitter on a recorder just to get camera audio.

Plug the smallest possible scratch mic instead into it.
