Hey guys, wanted to share with my short Video. It was recorded with GFX 100ii with lovely fujinon 110mm f2 at dunes of Maspalomas. I uploaded stilgars voice to voice cloner and let him narrate my favorite quotes from Dune series. Edited with Dehancer plugin. Film emulation was Ambrotype (by Anatolee Green). Music is ofcourse hans zimmer from the original first Dune.

GFX100ii settings: 5.8k mode 24fps 720mbps 422 FLOG2. (5.8k mode has the wide aspect ratio but uses the full width of the sensor) Unfortunately no open gate 4:3 that would have been awesome.

What do you think? did I match the color from Dune? voice cloning gives me creeps.

Nice! It's always nice to see what people are making.

In terms of matching color, I feel that the recent Dune movies were mostly less saturated. But I love the hyper-stylization you have here, too.

Hi, thanks for watching. I tried to immitate the intro scene where the Harkonens attack the group led by Stilgar.

Great stuff! Where did you film this? How did you go and get along with the sand close to your lens and camera? I love the strong layers and it containing people in super wides. The graphical intensity feels natural instead of being a mannerism, still it is very well composed and edited.

What's your take on colour, codec and "thickness" for color grading compared to other 10bit hybrids or even more specialized movie cameras?

Hi! well it's a mixed bag. the 720mbps feels that it offers a lot of room for grading.  I could only compare it to A1 10 bit and A7s iii 10bit, and it is very comparable, but i think it's stronger than SONY. The bitrate is just massive. I think the a7s tops at 150mbps at 4k and A1 at 520mbps for 8k. But it does shows small block after a heavy grade such as this. I used blur at the out of focus areas at certain scenes. it does offer however other formats directly to ssd, i think even RAW ? ProRes goes for sure. It is fully weather sealed so I readw the blog from Michael Clark (https://blog.michaelclarkphoto.com) where he puts the camera through the worst conditions. I shot it at Dunes of Maspalomas at Gran Canaria. Easy to get to even on foot. It is big one could spend days exploring there. If you want I can upload the originals for you 🙂

Cheers,

Michal

720mbit for 6k 16:9 sounds reasonable, that's h264 All-Intra then? Macroblocks is always a yikes. But desert surfaces also provide very homgenous surfaces, a challenge for many codecs under heavy grading. I have not encounterd any on S1, S1H at 4K 10bit 150mbit but and that is a big one I have encounterd blotchy posterization on redish skin in Vlog. So a paid beauty shot would make me test again. HLG in 10bit 422 seemed more robust for even skintones on a few occations.

I find it pretty daring to take a camera to the desert, especially a package like yours.

So, great work I must say again for various reasons of which I've mentioned some in my post above.

I would love to see your skills and your Fuji gems on faces and human subjects!

Don't bother for me with an extra upload, maybe for others. I don't have a machine for 6K h264 at the moment. But thank you very much for offering.
