Hi,

We wanted to let you know that on 09/12/24, the price of your plan will increase to 90,00€ billed annually, (plus applicable taxes). And today, we’re announcing that we're removing weekly upload limits, to give you unlimited access to 250 GB of total storage.

This is the first price increase for Vimeo in over 10 years and reflects our ongoing investment in improving your experience.

You can manage or cancel your plan in your Billing Settings or by contacting Customer Support through our Help Center.

Thank you for being a Vimeo customer,

The Vimeo Team"

Given that I have been using a plus account for over 13 years... WHAT IF I already uploaded more than 250GB?

Until now I had unlimited space and a 5GB weekly limit. ATM I have no tool to check it.

What are the alternatives?

YouTube let youo pload a unlisted video so you could share to a client but there's no way to download the original version. You can download only a crap 720p downsized version.

Other alternatives could be Frame.Io or https://www.gumlet.com/pricing/

Frame.io it's very expensive and doesn't support embedding

And people wonder why there's not more competition to YouTube, it's because of mismanagement like that seen at Vimeo.

They had the chance to become the thinking man's YouTube but blew it, to become a failing business service for videography clients and pros. The price increase reflects that too, that they preferred to focus on a tiny niche rather than the huge community they used to have.

At this point the mismanagement is so bad, you could even assume Google planted a covert CEO there just to absolutely make sure it would never become a valid competitor.

And today I don't think it matters that much as YouTube provides a much better platform, and the Vimeo community has been dead for well over 6 years now.

Having been part of this industry, with insider-knowledge on the tactics these people use, I can tell you that this is EXACTLY the kind of thing that happens.

It's impossible to prove this level of malfeasance, and this is the reason why it is so effective. Remember that Google is a well-evidenced CIA-project. Google's objective online is 'intelligence'-harvesting  and psychological-manipulation for power and profit.

As you have noted, anything that competes with the CIA (Google)'s ability to gather information, censor voices, and manipulate public-opinion,  becomes a target for infiltration. Vimeo was a serious-threat to power because it offered an independent, community-run information stream.

It is the purpose of Google / the CIA to destroy human-community, where it discovers it, and to replace natural-conversation with top-down programming. Existing power-systems do not like the free-flow of information because it exposes their crimes.

Freedom of speech is the antithesis of evil; therefore evil despises it at every turn.

As Google's founders, the CIA, famously said:

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." - William J. Casey, CIA Director (1981)

A bit of social networking and Google as one of the big 3 tech giants can have a high influence over appointees at all sorts of smaller companies.

I'm not suggesting it's true in the case of Vimeo, we simply don't know, but it can't be completely ruled out either.

It just seems very suspicious that the moment they became clear no.2 competition for YouTube, someone came in and took them in a completely different direction.

And for very little rewards.

Just read carefully this article:

https://www.giantfreakinrobot.com/ent/independent-ends.html

Quote

After relaunching GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT in 2019, the site grew to a readership of more than 20 million a month, through 2021 and 2022. Then Google decided they didn’t want independent publishers around anymore. Most entertainment keywords have now been given to one big company, whose numerous sites own the top slots for nearly every entertainment-related query of any substance.

No one can find our site to read it so that 20 million unique visitors is now a few thousand a month. Nearly every independently owned entertainment news publisher is in the same situation, in one way or another.

.......

GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT isn’t the first site to shut down. Hundreds of independent publishers have shuttered in the last two years, and thousands more are on the way. I’m in communication with dozens of other independents focused on different topics. None of them are doing well. They all expect to be out of business soon.

I went to Google directly, on their behalf, and told them about the problem. The message I walked away with, was that they do not care. Our industry is done.

Future entertainment news and opinion will come from AI recaps scraped and stolen from our archived content or from the big media companies backed by hedge funds that Google has chosen as its designated survivors.

Yes and thank you for the article...👍

But between an inevitable drift of capitalism (which needs to be a little regulated, in particular against any monopoly like anti-trust law) and a stinking conspiratorial attitude affirming that it is the CIA, the aliens who would be behind all this ... "yes, yes it is well known" is a little pathetic.

There are political influences everywhere, but it must be proven

" It is the purpose of Google / the CIA to destroy human-community " 🤪

"Vimeo was a serious-threat to power because it offered an independent, community-run information stream.

The Internet is a trash can to stir up shit ....so the less we do it on anything the more we are sure that it will go down to the bottom.

Have a good day 😉

So reading between the lines, YouTube/Google smashed Vimeo and the operators of YouTube/Google are the CIA who as everyone knows, are funded by aliens?

If so, that's cleared that one up.

What about TikTok?

Who is responsible for that shite?

The preposterous opinion to me is thinking that the intelligent services of all major states ARE NOT heavily shaping the internet landscape to control the flow & content of information people use to form their worldviews.

Western 'liberal democracies' are full of folks who can (correctly) attribute these tactics to autocratic regimes; and then show themselves as total suckers when evaluating their own countries and systems.

The reality is that US intelligence services have had a stranglehold on media & communications post-WWII -- in as many countries as they have been able to arrange it. That has extended into the internet era and the operations of myriad companies like Comcast, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Palantir etc. Tech and media companies are interested in advancing the priorities of empire and capital. A robust, diverse internet with decentralized, truly independent voices competing for attention of the minds of the populations is in conflict with that.

But yeah TikTok; China is in the same game. This is what states do. Incidentally, Trump may himself arrange a transfer of ownership of TikTok -- on favorable terms one of his donors Jeff Yass (who has a major financial stake in them). A Trump America with TikTok owned by China is not happening for much longer I'd wager.

The secret services are to protect us above all, like a doctor ... but there are some  Dr Mengele 😒

Yes, evil is everywhere, OK . But maybe it starts at home... maybe?😉

(complicated to make yourself understood, so in English it's worse, excuse me)

Have à good day 🥰
