Karl
Olympus OMD EM5 https://vimeo.com/groups/em5 is the new killing cam of the pana GH2? ;-)
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted July 10, 2012 Administrators Share Posted July 10, 2012 The in-body stabiliser is so good it takes the place of a rig sometimes. Even with a dirt cheap kit lens like the 40-150mm it performs better than the OIS on a $2000 Canon L lens. I'm not exaggerating. My review has been somewhat delayed because I got so immersed in shooting a project with it and I want both the footage and review to come out at the same time. Stay tuned. Thanks for posting. RichST
Looking at comparable videos it does seem like the EM5 is as sharp as the GH2, just with more moire. I don't know how Panasonic filters out the moire but however they do it it works well. But congrats to Sony for the excellent sensor, I don't know why they haven't used a similar video implementation on their APS-C sensors. If I had to do it over again I'd definitely get an EM5 over a GH2 since I do more still photography thesedays and have never been enamored with the GH2's stills. And most videos I do take now are handheld, another reason to choose the EM5
samuel.cabral
For now I believe it does not worth to replace the GH2 by EM5. Without 24p mode and with the moire issue with ... I would not trade. But i really (REALLY!) want to see this hacked!
Administrators Andrew Reid Posted July 11, 2012 Administrators Share Posted July 11, 2012 As an all round cinema shooter, no it is not worth replacing a GH2. But as a stills shooter and handheld footage camera with no rig, it is far better in those respects. Also the OLED screen, handling, build quality, weather proofing and EVF certainly shame the GH2.
