It makes a lot of financial sense to book a trip to somewhere like the US or Japan, buy a modest amount of kit you need, use it and return home. Buying just a single used A1 in the US, for the same money I can buy one in Europe, would give me €1000-1300 to spend on tickets, hotels and all the burgers I can eat.
