Pana S9 is definition of an underrated camera

You are correct, they blew it with the marketing... And sort of with the product design, because had it looked a bit more serious with an EVF as well, it would have done very well.

Only Panasonic can take something as powerful as an S1H, with an image that good, give it to us for $1500 and make a big fuck up of it.

That you can soon get it for under $1k used is indeed a steal.

The advertising is trying to capture a market that is perfectly happy with a high-end smartphone or a Sony ZV

Even as a freebie I don't want that lens. It's a waste of materials. At best it'll end up collecting dust in a drawer or worse, end up as waste in a landfill.

If I understood this correctly, with the S9 you can shoot both video and stills with TWO crop markers at the same time?

Can anyone with an S9 confirm or deny.

Ideally, I’d like to shoot raw + Jpeg but with X Pan mode on for stills, ie, the Jpegs would be 65:24 but the raw files 3:2.

At the same time, I’d like to stick 4:5 crop guide on so I can keep my social media stills in mind (in post).

With video, shoot 6k 30p open gate with 2x crop guides; one 65:24 and the other 9:16.

You can use three frame markers at the same time. Richard Wong says att 2.25 that it works in both photo and video modes. And he shows how you can customize the frame markers.

I think for video, this is such a great bit of kit...but the S5II is and would be even better if it received the firmware from the S9.

For stills though, I'd still have to hand it to the S5II just for the mech shutter but then I don't much care for the mech shutter on the S5II so please LUMIX, make me an S2R!!

Feature-wise, this little bastard has quite a few things I'd like to see in a more pro body.

I wish the S9 and the X-M5 would have a little love child. X-S9? The Panasonic IBIS, full frame sensor and autofocus. Anamorphic support and LUTS but 6.2k open gate Raw to the Ninja V+/Ultra like the Fuji. Color presets for JPEGs and the $800 price. If Panasonic had given us raw out of the HDMI it would have been too much though I agree. For Fuji to have left in the same specs as the XS20 and XH2s is nuts.

Start using the S9 yesterday, I really dig the LUT implantation on Panasonic, quite intuitive actually.

The 3.8k opengate 50mbps to keep file size small is a huge plus over 200mbps 6.2k opengate for quick social edits on ur phone
