It'll be interesting to see if any of them are a new sensor design.  It's been a bit since Sony announced anything interesting in the consumer space.

If not a new sensor design, if they'd just put the A7 V sensor in an old RX1 body and sell it for $2,800, they'd steal a lot of Fuji's X100RF thunder.  One would assume that somebody in Sony's product management team noticed at some point that their camera was just a few years too early and now the market is crazy for high-end compacts.

I'd love a more affordable full frame compact from Sony but have a feeling if they do an RX1 update it will be 5 grand.

Otherwise it pinches sales off the E-mount stuff and their lenses.

The original RX1 for under $800 on eBay is currently one of the best walk-around travel / documentary stills cameras you can get for anywhere close to the price with a full frame sensor. I urge anyone to snap it up used.

Looks like there are some RX1R for $850-900.  I'd spend the $50-100 for 36 megapixels over 24, especially with a fixed lens - but agreed that's a great deal.

The only real thing I'd like to see updated vs the RX1R/RX1R II would be 4K capture.  The old ones were only 1080p.

I'd be interested!

I was very interested in the A7CR except for the not so great rear screen and a couple of other things so went with the A7RV which IMO, other than size and form factor, is quite a big step up.

Especially as the A7RV with a trio of compact zooms is my main stills camera with a sidekick Nikon Zf with 40mm f2.

I love my Zf and use it as a fixed lens camera, but it's not that compact and something like an RX1R, but preferably more modern, would be able to better pairing.

Maybe I should actually go and look up used RX1R's myself...

I recently treated myself to a Nikon Z 40mm F2 for 150 euros.

It ain't bad is it?

It's very good.

OK, it's a bit plastic fantastic, but otherwise does the business I need it to do which is to make my Zf a fixed lens walkabout

I'm going to keep on dreaming of "a FX60" (the FX6, but with the smaller/cheaper sensor of the FX30. Because S35 is still plenty!).

Would also be competing against the new Fujifilm GFX100RF as well.

Wonder if Nikon might bring out a full frame version of the Nikon Z30 one day. Might be kind of a competitior to the likes of the a7C mk1 / a7C mk2 / a7CR

It's as if the studios have locked in a deal with Sony and the DPs are discovering the joys of a small camera for the first time like it's 2010 and the Canon 7D has just come out.

Studio - we want Venice 2, no expense spared!

DPs - how can we rig it to an F1 car airbox at 200mph?

Sony - buy this 9 grand cable

But what choices are there currently other than:

Decade old RX1Rii

Sigma FP/L

Leica Q3/43

And the new Fooj.

Which is why I use my Zf as such with the 40mm f2 SE welded on.

I just wish it was smaller and had 50+ mp…

The new Fuji is quite a chonk. MUCH bigger than the Fp or X100 VI.

RX1R II is the right size for me, smallest of the bunch and one of the best lenses too.

Q3/43 price doesn't make sense for anybody but rich people.

The Zf/40mm F2 is a different beast I think.... much bigger than RX1R

The other option is Pana S9 with a pinhole F8 lens.
