EOSHD Pro Color 5 for Sony cameras EOSHD Z LOG for Nikon CamerasEOSHD C-LOG and Film Profiles for All Canon DSLRs

I'm looking forward to seeing some reviews of this from reliable people. I love my FX30, which I combine with an A6600 as B-cam. The drawback there is that the RS on the A6600 is absolutely atrocious - especially, for some reason, with non-native lenses. I actually only have 2 Sony lenses, neither of them particularly amazing.

At this low price, I could sell both my Sony cameras, both Sony lenses, my CF Express cards and the top-handle audio thingy - buy 2 of these and whatever EF-RF adapter they come out with and probably still have a bunch of money left over to spend in the pub!

So - awaiting proper tests of DR, RS and stab more generally.

(I've considered doing the same with the Fuji XM-5, but the lack of stab and their rarity have led to me deciding against).

Apparently it has a fan.

It's a keen price... $695

I quite like it but never going to be groundbreaking coming from them

Pretty sure it's the Powershot V1 that has the fan not the R50 V - and that would track with traditional Canon cripple-hammer logic. This guy put thermal pads in his OG R50 and it seemed to work but I don't myself doing all that:

Pretty cool design actually. Finally something new from Canon. Takes cues from the FX3 for sure. Vertical thread mount makes sense. Hopefully a more "pro" level FF version is in the making with IBIS, Clog2 etc to truly compete with FX3/FX30. R5V?

Been a Canon shooter my entire career (7D/5D MKII/III/1DC/R5/R5C) and have always bought used but if this R50 V has no overheating issues I might make an exception - altho the dream is really the pro level FF version you're describing...

Yeah its pretty exciting as a Canon shooter myself to see a new product line emerge, especially one dedicated to video. First flat top Canon design ever. I don't know about no overheating as this is an entry-level product aimed at social network content creators so usually very short form content but the video below states they worked hard to avoid it. In any case rest assured this is the first product of an entirely new V camera line dedicated to video so its pretty much a given pro FF version will come. Here is a rare glimpse into the R&D folks at Canon HQ talking about it:

R50V also has filters, custom LUTs, false color, aspect markers & 2.35:1 cine mode. Pretty cool for a $695 camera!

Does it have black screen when recording internally and connect to hdmi out? On the V1 I definitely saw black screen when connected to the screen which is a shame, but this R50V seems to have latest codec from R5II and not based in previous one.

This is the only thing that kept me from switching the E10II out at this stage til more info coming out (ie the bloody user manual!

R50V can connect to usb-c as UVC webcam up to 4k60p which is nice, and can also be powered by the same usb connection, that solved the power issue for current cameras acted as webcam.

Better not get too carried away with the pretty Canon logo.

I mean it may be cheap but it's still shitter than a 6 or 7 year old camera isn't it?

I mean you can get a Fuji X-T3 with the advantage of no crop in 4K/60p, more codec options and an EVF for the same price.

Pretty wicked for a $650 camera. Is there any other new camera that offers 10bit 4K, top of the line AF, log profile and false color at this price point?

I'm really digging the body style too.

If only it had ibis, I'd pay $1000 for it. Other than that, it's fixes everything I dislike about the R7... of course like the R7 (with zebras) I'm sure you can't use both focus peaking and false color at the same time.

Fun camera in theory let's see how it works in practice.

Right now I'm watching Cam Mackey's latest YT that's shot with a t5i (well he's "showcasing" the t5i and shooting with the s1rii... I kinda like the t5i footage better...

The EOS R50 V is a loss leader out to encourage lens sales with a huge army of social media influencers and Youtubers.

On the face of it, it's definitely a step forward from Canon in the value for money stakes.

Sure, they will want you to buy loads of expensive glass for it.

Thankfully Sigma is doing some nifty APS-C lenses so we don't have to.

I do like the built in LUTs, C-LOG3, AF should be decent although maybe perfect, but it does lack an EVF and IBIS.

Agreed. I think Canon themselves have often referred to themselves as a lens company first. That said, any loss leader benefits us. As much as I hate the price of Canon RF lenses, like you said, now Sigma has some fairly inexpensive offerings and the Canon full frame f/1.8 lenses are pretty decent with a solid build. I really enjoy the 24mm 1.8 on the R7. With any aps-c camera I would purchase going forward, I would mostly buy FF lenses. The Sigma RF would be the exception. And maybe Sigma 18-50 on the Sony FX30 if I was ever inclined to go that route.
