Kromofone
Hey all, I need some advice with buying a camera and the choice between a Canon 70D and Sony RX10 MKII. Now I know all the differences between sensor size, recording resolution, ISO capability, limited Sony lens, workflow, etc. What I am interested is colour; How does the Sony handle colour vs. the Canon? I've heard Canon is quite the master, when it comes to colour, so I'd like to know about Sony and how it stacks up. Any and all thoughts are going to help me!Thanks, Matej! Mat Mayer
I went from Canon 600D to Sony RX100ii and the color on the Sony was crap in comparison imho. A good way to explain is my profile picture; it looks a bit nasty with fake green and over saturated. In fairness I had Technicolor Cinestyle with the Canon so that will of course beat a consumer pocket camera. However they have now introduced S Log 2 to the RX's so that changes everything imho. Andrew will be comparing the RX10 to a Canon soon, which should help us make our minds up. So far the S Log footage looks really promising to me. Mervyn
If he compares it with his 1D C I think I already know which camera is gonna win...Out of the box I'd say Canon wins big time on color. But with a skillful grade things might actually get interesting! I was disappointed with Sony's colors in the past (A56). But indeed S Log 2 looks like it will be making a big difference. TheRenaissanceMan
If you know what you're doing and don't use SGamut, you'll get great results out of any SLog camera. If you're struggling, there are lots of LUT packages available from the people at SpeedLooks, VisionColor, etc.
