Marco Tecno
Reading from here:http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/08/skylakes-graphics-architecture-intel-is-still-gunning-for-dedicated-gpus/I see that skylake seems capable of encoding/decoding hvec via hardware. If this is confirmed and implemented in video sw, this could mean that we'll be able to work directly on h.265 files, in real time. Anybody has news/evidences about this? Don Kotlos
Early reports do indicate that it works very well. Check this post that links to A LOT of info:http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1694697 Marco Tecno
Marco Tecno
Thanks! The results are indeed very good. It'd be interesting to know if popular sw will support this or not. And what about encoding? I mean...it'd be nice to work directly on h.265 and then export the graded clip into this same format to save space on hd! agolex
Course it will be supported, it's been the certain future for some time. With H/W support having arrived, I'd suppose it will happen during the next 12 months.
DBounce
Indeed, h.265 support is a certainty.
AaronChicago
Bets on whether or not GH5 will be h.265?
Marco Tecno
Depends if they have a chip ready for it. Samsung engineered it much ahead of time and the hw in nx1 is mighty to say the very least. I think that no camera or videocamera has similar processing power, now. AaronChicago
I'm hoping they hold off till fall of 2016. V-Log should give GH4 some extra life. Waiting another year would really add some new tech into the GH line. Marco Tecno
LimitBreak
The i7 6700K Quadcore CPU is already for sale !Hexacore processors won't be out till later beginning of 2016 Also if you use intel IGP Quick Sync hardware encode you lose the added gpu encoding, don't think any NLE uses both
